What is the bore diameter on the 50 BP Muzzleloader. And what steel are they making them out of.

.502" on my three examples, and they aren't making any more of them right now, unfortunately. They were discontinued last year.

Did I miss something like what rifle we are talking about? Not all muzzleloader barrels measure the same. T/C barrels are usually very small (.499-.500 in my case). White barrels are .504-.505, Knight can be in the .502-.504 range also. Not all models of the same manufacturer measure the same. As far as what steel, again it can range from standard centerfire rifle steel which is usually high carbon moly type of steel. or in some cases less strength steel. Some are actually extruded so I am told. Then there are stainless which is another whole thing to discuss.

Keith,

Since we are on the Huntsman/Sidekick Forum, I assumed he was talking about the NEF's.

All mine are .502", and are from 2003/2004/2008. They have the exact same rifling as my Knight Green Mountain barrels. Not sure on the grade of steels used on the barrels, but they seem to be good ones. No complaints here.

Yes, I guess I overlooked the forum being the NEF one. My Huntsman also is about .502 and from what I understand most if not all the barrels were from Green Mountain. I know they are of very high quality.

As of 2007, Marlin was the sole provider of .50 cal muzzleloader barrels, they use 1137 mild steel.

I have read past pages and pages on this forum. That is the first time I have read that Green Mountain made the barrels for pre-2007 NEF muzzleloaders. I have one. I am amazed at the way this thing has shot. Five years ago or so I paid $130 for my Huntsman. The best value hunting money I have ever spent, no doubt. I just can't believe I didn't know that. ---Emptypockets

All the H&Rs I own have given me a lot of bang for my buck.  The Huntsman excells at that.  I can't understand why they discontinued such a fine rifle.  All they needed to do is upgrade the breech plug.  Mine is sitting here panting waiting for the Dec. 4 opener.  I may have to take her out now during rifle season to give her some exercise and take the edge off.
