RWS Diana 28
« on: November 16, 2009, 07:37:25 PM »
I bought a old model 28 RWS at a garage sale for 15 bucks. The stock was cracked and the ouside of the barrel is rusty. I cleaned it up the best I could and pinned the stock. I really like the gun as it seems pretty accurate. That being said I dumped a crow this morning at about forty yards out and thirty feet up in a tree. Scored a head shot and dropped him with out a wing flap. Anyways, can anyone give me an idea of how old the gun may be? Also I asume by its outward condition the inside seals are worn. Is there a place I can send it to for a seal job/tune up? I would like it to be all it can as I want to use it for grouse up on the logging roads. Thanks, Ray

Try contacting Tim McMurray  of Mac1 Airguns for a tune at: http://www.mac1airgun.com/aboutus.htm

Or google Paul Watts.

I think either one could help you out or direct you to someone. I had Tim tune up a Chinese copy of a Crosman CO2 gun. He did a good job with a reasonable turn around time. I believe he does spring guns too.

Other airgun smiths seem to come and go. Lately I haven't been shooting mine much and I'm out of the loop as to who is working. There was a guy billing himself as Charlie da tuna or some such.  He seemed to get good reviews.

Thanks for the help. I am thinking about ordering a new RWS 350 mag to replace this old 28. It still shoots ok, but just this morning I shot a big silver grey in the head. It slid down the tree and ran in circles and took 2 more shots to finish the deal. I think I need more gun to start with.

Keep in mind that the big, powerful spring guns are not nearly as user-friendly as the lower power ones.

The heavy springs in 'magnum' rifles generate a lot of velocity but can be loud, difficult to cock, harder to get to shoot accurately, and can rattle your fillings loose when they go off. They can also kill even airgun rated scopes.

all very valid things to consider, however I am looking for a air gun that will get the job done and fall in my budget. I think the 350 will do that. Noise, cocking and recoil have no effect on my situation, and I hunt open sights with air gun, so I should be golden. Thanks for the reply. Ray

Another one to look at for your purposes in the same price range might be the RWS 48 or 52. I had a 48 in .22 for ~12 years and it was problem free.
