I just bought a Saiga rifle in 7.62 X 39 with a 16" barrel yesterday. I pulled the recoil buffer out of my military Romanian AK-47 temporarily and put it into the Saiga. I was able to see the difference in workmanship between the two. The Russian gun is nicely made, my Romanian is ok too, but not as nicely finished as the Russian, Izmash made gun.
How good are those side scopes for stability? One contributor a few months ago on this format said that as the receiver on the Aks flex, the side scopes are not good. The fact that the mounts for those guns are hard to find seems to say that that is correct. Also, the clip is made out of plactic, how well have they been holding up for you guys?
I am hoping to go out and shoot it this week. :-)
