Now this is not a Texas Tale this one comes out of Houma, Louisiana---get an atlas.
It and a larger female were seen crossing a soccer field last night---the female was not taken.

i have seen many gators 17--18 feet long and have killed many many gators (bootleg operation in my younger days) i am sure some of those weighed close to 1000 pounds.

It takes a lot of stray cats to make a 1000 pound gator. That's remarkable. I wonder how old it is. Some of those really big reptiles have been around for a lot of years.

Questor.  I remember not too many years ago when it was rare to see a gator in Louisiana, and there were darn few in Texas at the time.  They went on the endangered specifies list for many years, hunting was stopped (the Cajuns almost starved to death).  I seen several in Florida that I would estimate be in the 1000 pound range, most were in captivity.

I guess they will eat cats, but given a choice they would probably take a dog over a cat.

when they implemented the ban on hunting i was plying the swamps in a piroue taking as many as twenty a nite. most were gone from the neches river and they had more on the sabine however that all changed when you went into the swamps of western calcasiue parish. then for thousands upon thousands just get into the atchafalya basin they were and still are everywhere.

we took them with .22 rifles in the water and drop line hooks baited with whole chickens hanging from willow limbs. sometimes we wouls shoot nutria cut them open and bait the hooks with them. the largest i ever took was 15 feet most were 4 to 8 feet. the old caqjun that got me involved in it had lost an arm using a snare on a pole when he snared the gator about 6 feet long it started spinning and broke his left arm off at the elbow.

the cajuns are a strange breed if you are their friend you are a friend for life they will fight and i have no doubt die for you. just never and i mean never fool with a woman they claim or you just might dissapear in those swamps forever. they love life like no others i have ever met they work hard play hard.

Internet hoax. Give it enough time and you'll see the same gator killed in Houma, LaPlace, Eden Isles and a sewer in New York.

Part of my job includes photography and writing for an outdoors website, we get stuff like this all the time. Funny how there is never a 36 foot, 4 inch snake or a 1,112 lb gator...They are always 30 feet long or 1,000 lbs. Strange how internet giants' lengths and weights are so convenient.

Boy, now I've done it!  Next you'll get an email about a 1,619 lb, 4 oz rat, complete with length and girth. ( and it was probably feeding on small muslim children in Africa, but the government hid it from the public.)

An Alligator farm in Fla. claims the world record gator.
The 38 yr. old gator is 13 ft 2 inches long, and weighs over 800 lbs. "Google up Alligator Alley"
