7mm Bowers rechamber
« on: October 18, 2003, 07:29:53 PM »
Can someone tell me about the 7mm Bowers?  Never heard of it until today.  How does it compare to the 7-30 Waters, especially in regards to velocity with 120-130 grain bullets?

The 7mm Super Bower will out run the 7x30 Waters.  I do not have data in front of me at the moment,  but the Bower cartridges in the 6.5, 7mm & 30 caliber will out run pretty much everything that is offered by others in the Contender or G-2.  Don's cartridges are like the the 45-70 in the Contender in that you can overload the cartridge.   In essense it is the a 307 Winchester case Improved.  the 307 is a very strong case and with the improvement allows you to use slow burning powders to keep pressures down.  I believe Ladobe (moderator) has one of Don's cartridges and can attest to what I am saying.

OK, I'll jump in (since Ernie hooked me).

Besides the 307 Win case, these Bower's can also be made from 356 Win brass full length and 444 Marlin trimmed to length.

I've shot several of the Bower creation's in years past, really liked the 30 Alaskan, but the one I "landed" on was the 6.5 Super Bower for an all-around, do anything choice.    Some really great bullets are available for it and it shoots with extreme precision for a very long ways.   I'm on the lucky side in that I obtained what was one of Don's personal test barrels (supposedly Fred made the barrel and Don chambered it) - a 15" Bullberry that is not a rechamber.   It'll handle everything from 85-140 grain pills, and in great style.

So you can compare it to the 7X30 Waters 120's-130's (also a great cartridge BTW)... with 120's, it will deliver up to just over 2700 fps with about 1770 fpe (depending on powder used); and with 129's about 2580 fps and near 1860 fpe.

Everything from varmints to elk can be taken with the 6.5SB (I wanted it for log range Pronghorns), and it is also what I use for the long range fun matches at the gun club (it holds its own against the bench rifles quite well considering the optics difference).   So far my list of powders that it likes numbers around 18, but there are probably more to be found.

Hope this is of some help.  Naturally, the best source of info to help you decide is to talk to Don himself.   He's a gruff old bird that could talk the ear off a cornstalk at 1000 yards, but is a good guy who has done the work - and so knows.

Best of luck however you go,

Ladobe  :bye:

Here's a picture of it set up as a backup for predator calling - for when they hold up and won't come into range for the primary (17's or 22's) - Pachy's and a SGM 2-7 in steel Warne rings on a steel VV base).

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Thanks for helping Ladobe!  Hope you didn't mind being "HOOKED."
I knew you were qualified to speak about it since you have one.  At the moment I own no TC products, but that will change in the next 12 months.

Ladobe,
What length & twist is your 6.5 Super Bower Barrel?
What do you consider your 2 favorite powders with 120 & 129 grain bullets?

Contact Mark Armstrong first 307-721-3052 and Don's phone number is 303-343-9596.  Tell Mark & Don "Hi" from Ernie when you visit with them.
The loading data will come with the barrel.  If not, I can get you load data from another Marc (Marc Sheehan who helps put on the LR clinics in Nebraska).

I think the price is around $100.  There is some shuffling taking place so please don't consider this a hard quote ( I don't do the work and am not tied financially in any way).  If someone wants a rechamber done soon or very soon the price should be under $100.  If you want something done within the next month please e-mail me at ernie1@ourtownusa.net

Nice caliber.. I have owned two The first was a T/C rechamber and the tother is a Bullberry which I still have and like.. It pushes all bullets faster than 7x30 Waters and 7x30 JDJ chambering.. Cases are stouter and seem to last longer than the 7x30 JDJ which I also shoot a good bit.I have smote a few deer with the Waters rounds in 14 in and carbine and am going to the 7mm Bower this season. It is a stout pistol round.
