August 19, 1850 Federal Census of the Kentucky District, Meade County, Kentucky also shows a Joseph Mitting, age 17 years, a laborer, born about 1833, in Pennsylvania living with this family. This might give us a hint to Marys Maiden name. This boy might have been her brother.
The girl Rachel Read may have been the sister to Robert W. Read. The census list her along with the other children but look at her age Robert W. Read would have been about 11 years old when she was born and Mary Read would have been about 13 years old. Not impossible but it is doubfull to be Robert W. Reads daughter.
I got the city of birth from his son Edwards death certificate.
June 02, 1880 Federal Census shows him as a 70 year old widower with his 38 year old daughter Alice who was single living with him. It also shows that he was born in Pennsylvania and both his mother and father were born in Ireland.

September 09, 1870 federal Census of West Point Precinct, Hardin County, Kentucky shows a Thomas H. Watson, age 50 years, born in Pennsylvania who works in a (unreadable) factory living in their home. he shows no others with him. Could this be Bells father?
Information from original Death Certificate Jefferson County, Kentucky. Information given by his brother T.E. Read who calimed the body. Death Certificate Number 15237 states he was to be buried in West Point, Hardin County, Kentucky. He died of Endo Carditis that he had for a period of three years. He was a widower at the time of his death.

CONFEDERATE KENTUCKY TROOPS
6th Regiment, Kentucky Mounted Infantry
6th Infantry Regiment was organized at Cave City, Kentucky, in November, 1861, and included in Cofer's 1st Kentucky Infantry Battalion. Its members were raised in the counties of Nelson, Spencer, Hardin, Franklin, Barren, Green, Allen, Anderson, Bullitt, and Simpson. It became part of the Orphan Brigade or Louisville Legion. This regiment lost 108 killed and wounded at Shiloh, sustained 18 casualties at Baton Rouge, then was active at Vicksburg. During the war it was assigned to General Hanson's, Helm's, and J.H. Lewis' Brigade. It fought with distinction at Murfreesboro and Chickamauga, then saw action in the Atlanta Campaign. In the fall of 1864 the unit was mounted, and aided in the defense of Savannah and the campaign of the Carolinas. It lost seventeen percent of the 269 engaged at Murfreesboro and 220 saw action at Chickamauga. The unit totalled 263 men and 221 arms in December, 1863. The 6th surrendered with the Army of Tennessee on April 26, 1865. The field officers were Colonels Martin H. Cofer and Joseph H. Lewis, Lieutenant Colonel William L. Clarke, and Majors Thomas H. Hays and George W. Maxson.
As the only major engagement about the time of his death I believe he was killed in the battle of Atlanta and perhaps the date of death is off. remember in most cases the bodies were not returned home until after the war sometiomes many years later and the records were not the best.

Description: Following the Battle of Peachtree Creek, Hood determined to attack Maj. Gen. James B. McPherson’s Army of the Tennessee. He withdrew his main army at night from Atlanta’ s outer line to the inner line, enticing Sherman to follow. In the meantime, he sent William J. Hardee with his corps on a fifteen-mile march to hit the unprotected Union left and rear, east of the city. Wheeler’s cavalry was to operate farther out on Sherman’s supply line, and Gen. Frank Cheatham’s corps were to attack the Union front. Hood, however, miscalculated the time necessary to make the march, and Hardee was unable to attack until afternoon. Although Hood had outmaneuvered Sherman for the time being, McPherson was concerned about his left flank and sent his reserves—Grenville Dodge’s XVI Army Corps—to that location. Two of Hood’s divisions ran into this reserve force and were repulsed. The Rebel attack stalled on the Union rear but began to roll up the left flank. Around the same time, a Confederate soldier shot and killed McPherson when he rode out to observe the fighting. Determined attacks continued, but the Union forces held. About 4:00 pm, Cheatham’s corps broke through the Union front at the Hurt House, but Sherman massed twenty artillery pieces on a knoll near his headquarters to shell these Confederates and halt their drive. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan’ s XV Army Corps then led a counterattack that restored the Union line. The Union troops held, and Hood suffered high casualties.

August 30, 1870 Federal Census shows Lloyd H. Read and wife Susan E. with a child Lillian. His father Robt. W. and his mother Mary and sister Alice and brother Thomas are living with them.
I followed Lloyd to the 1900 Census he and his wife and son Lloyd S. read were living in St. Joseph, Washington Township, Buchanan County, Missouri. The 1900 Census gave me the months and year of births as well as the year of marriage.
