GPS Recommendation For Geocaching
« on: November 18, 2009, 08:08:55 AM »
Hello:  I am asking this question for a friend who is interested in trying geocaching.  He would like some recommendations on a reasonably-priced GPS model that will serve him well for this hobby.  Any recommended websites for purchasing one would also be appreciated. TIA.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me into the great outdoors.

The Garmin GPS60CSx is a favorite with geocachers, and it appears that Walmart.com has the best price at this time.
You can save about $75.00 by buying one of the eTrex HCx series. You can explore the links provided for prices.

There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!

I have to agree 100% with Siskiyou on the Garmin 60csx. Great unit. If your friend gets into it geocaching heavy and is thinking of paperless caching, Go for the Oregon 300. I have both and the they are both equally accurate. Since I bought the Oregon my 60csx is just used as a back up or a loaner. Funny most of the others I cache with use 60csx's, but when we get stumped who do they come to, me and the Oregon for the description, hints, and past logs. Like I said they are both great units just comes down how much he wants to spend or how advanced a unit he wants.

Good Luck

Happy Caching :)
