The scope will always be more precise. The reticle will have an intersection to use as reference but the dot lacks this.
Some people misuse dots and sight them in for the impact of the rounds on the top edge of the dot like a snoman. The problem with this is that the dot "grows" over distance. If it is a 4 moa dot at 50yds its roughly 2" at 100yds roughly 4 inches. That means the outside edge is an inch higher at 100 compared to 50.
A dot when used correctly, the group should impact the center of the dot for your intended zero range then it will rise and fall through its trajectory. The problem is if you are shooting something smaller than 4moa at 100yds you can't see it.
The dot is more combat accurate... the encore is precision, Scope it!
