Dom's new "recession buster" GB cannons....
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:42:09 PM »
With the possiblity of inexpensive GB size steel balls that DD is working on, I have renewed interest in a GB bore cannon to go with my mortar.

Looking at Dom's website, I see that he now offers a "sledge-base fortress cannon" and new mini-Dictator in GB bore.

For anyone wanting to get into a turn-key GB bore cannon or mortar setup on the cheap, one of these and some of the Fox steel balls could be had by even a day-laborer like me. :)

I am working on new inventory that I plan to list sometime during January, February and March.  Seven new types/sizes of cannon barrels, three naval guns, a new style soda can Coehorn and soda can flat base mortar, eight new field cannon models.

Wow, that is a lot, and I'll be looking forward to seeing those! I really like your Dahlgren golf-ball, one of my favorites. The new ones should be just as interesting! BoomLover

I have the carriage plates made for a .75 caliber Dahlgren 1/12 scale.  I need to build the barrel and assemble it.  It should sell for in the 100 - 200 dollar range.  I think.

Dominick,    We are happy to hear you are planning a new line and if it's as good as your current line, you will have much success!

Now on a more serious note, we have to rein in that free spirit who knows Garyspeak better than anyone else.

yikes i might have to start saving some money. ;D

Along the same lines, Gary, we might have to start charging you some money.  ;) ;) :D :D ;D ;D :o :o  Other wise how the heck do you think we can order one of Dom's new guns??

Dom,

Are parts of the old line being phased out?  Will you retain some-loose some? When is the sneak preview and the premiere?

Will my pop can shooting Dictator become a limited edition valuable collectors item, that should be placed in the vault and not shot?  If so I will have to build a vault.

Carronader!!  For ONCE, we agree with you, and to your credit, you finally realize that you can gather more bees with honey than you can with vinegar.  Now our problem is how to segue (segway) into the next part of this post.  How about this, in my spare time I will work on finishing a project that only Dominick knows about, (and let's keep it that way for about a week), during which time I will finally make time to finish it up and present it, with 'hands on' pics, but without, (thanks to carronader, any dusty old book stuff).  Nuff said!

As for Gary's only purpose in life, well, except for taking the garbage out, I suppose you are right, Zulu.   ;D ;D

then it will be easier to find all info in the future for everyone who is interested to learn about casting
my guess is that that topic would be read long after we passed away

hope that you got more pictures of the silicone pour and dig out of the clay also
now you got a responsibility to show all interested people here all the different steps in the production

you know how much I nag on you to take lots of pictures to show here  ;D

Dom,

Are parts of the old line being phased out?  Will you retain some-loose some? When is the sneak preview and the premiere?

Will my pop can shooting Dictator become a limited edition valuable collectors item, that should be placed in the vault and not shot?  If so I will have to build a vault.

Douglas,  To answer your first question, yes. My original plan was to phase out half scale and larger cannons, for multiple reasons.  Last week I had to add another reason to the list.  There is a good possibly I may be losing my shop this spring.  Zoning issues and the cost of relocating my shop/trailer with new electric service means that I may have to relocate, sell the large lathe and scale down my operation.  If this happens, I have to move to the alternative set-up and I will then be building smaller ordinance.  I was not figuring on this happening for another few years, but it's looking like sooner than later.  In the mean time I am moving back into my old shop for the time being.  This will happen this Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.  I'll be back to full speed the middle of next week to continue processing the existing orders.  If all goes as planned, I hope to have the list of new inventory on the website during the months of January and February.  Your mortar is a one of a kind.  I have no plans to build another like it.  Get working on that vault!  ;D  ;D

I'm told by my landlord and his business partner that I have 5 months if things fall through with the zoning permit.  They are generous enough to let me back into my old shop for the time being.  As for now, my trailer will be used for storage.

Dom,   If you are paying more than $350 per month rent, come out to Colorado.  Clean air, an ave. of 340 sunny days per year, beautiful snow covered mountains, but only 14 days per year of any snow on the highways and more empty small industry spaces with your power requirements than you can shake a stick at.  Used machinery at depression prices abound.  Mike and I even saw an antique lathe large enough to turn an average size car, made by Fitchburg of Mass. and dated 1867!  An extra bonus, of course, is having friendly cannon makers and a bronze foundry guy nearby!  Lots of industrial zoning in the burbs, Dom and 5 major steel suppliers nearby.

Think about it,

Colorado woulld be nice.  You are close enough to Montana to make the annual shoot and far enough away, that I wouldn't be hanging around your shop everyday!
