Forend
« on: November 19, 2009, 03:36:54 AM »
I was making a full length forend for one of my barrels yesterday and kind of dreading bedding it since the Handi is so anal about the how it fits.

Then It occurred to me that I may make a hunting forend for the 45/70.
I keep looking at an old Stevens Crackshot I've had for 40 odd years, with it;s tiny splinter.
Has anyone trued stopping the forend just forward of the stud and tapering it to a splinter?
Seems like if you completely class bedded it to and including the stud, it would eliminate a lot of the accuracy issues.

I've tried glass bedding several...and keep going back to RTV bedding them..It's so much easier to remove and redo if you have/want to..and gives excellent dampening properties to every one I've done..My last one I just did is the thickest and longest bedding..1" from the front..and the same for the back...3/16" thick...Works great

Thanks Tim!

Speaking of Faq's, I couldn't find another 158 hammer. Darn things are scarce and I was lucky to get the one so I ordered a gold tone and will see how it works. I assume you would have posted if you had any further issues with it....I hope ::)

It works great with a double coil spring on my 6.5x55, didn't work well with a single coil, the jury rigged anchor is in the wrong place unless you make a spring for it with different angles.  :-\
