Scope mount RB
« on: November 19, 2009, 05:59:20 AM »
Howdy boys & girls.

I am so gald I found this site because it is exactly what I need for this question.

I am finally mounting my 2x Bushnell scope to my Raging bull.

Before I boresite and tighten the rings I have a question from someone who may have already experienced this.

The scope is the same length from hammer to muzzel. I removed the rear site and the mounting hole was used for the rail.

My question is as I look at this setup. Will the barrel ports fry the scope??? can anyone tell me where the pitfall is in this?

Thanks

Yup. If it's within an inch or so of the ports it's gonna do a job on that scope real fast.

I hope it's not a .454. My .454 Bull gun first ate a new Simmons red dot in five rounds, then my old Aimpoint in about 50 rds. I went back to the iron sights LOL.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

I've used Bushnell Trophy and Elite 2-6 scopes plus Leupold 2X and 4X scopes on both .454 and .480 Raging Bulls with no ill effects. It's all in how you mount them and using a quality scope to begin with.

Thanks for the response. Yes it is a 454 Casull. I have the B-square mount and a Bushnell trophy silver 2X scope. I did back it up where the muzzel flash will not be a direct hit at all. I am concerned about lense fouling and may use a old clear scope cover to protect it. I am also giving good consideration to adding a secons set of Burris scope rings on it for extra hold. If I can get it to hold up this winter with a few rounds I may take it hunting next year.

I have a bushnell trophy on my RB right now, a 2-6x.  I have it mounted forward, so the glass is in front of the ports.  The outside of the front bell gets leading, soot, and all kinds of crap on it, but the glass itself and scope function are just fine.  I had to remove the front sight blade, the rear sight is unaffected how it is mounted.

I am using the taurus factory mount on mine - and you have to have a good set of rings for .454, no question.
