Trail camera question...
« on: November 21, 2009, 06:08:47 AM »
Unsure where this should actually be placed. But figured this could work... Please move if its incorrect.

last year I picked up a new trail camera from Moultrie. I had had a couple film trail cameras and they seemed to work just fine. This Moultree was fairly well recommended and was of coarse digital. I haded used it at all last year. but I have been using it heavily this year. While I have some pics of game, I feel I am missing shots. My biggest reason for thinking this way is I should always have at least two pics on every roll. One of my setting it up and another of me retrieving it. I always be sure to walk in front of it.

Wednesday I shot a deer and upon trailing it I came across a run that was unbelievable, no leaves, and at least 6" deep in the ground. It runs up a gullie completely surrounded with 20-30 FEET of briars on all sides. I set the camera Wednesday and retrieved the card this AM.... NOTHING ON IT!!! Not even me!!

Any one have any pointers for me?

mine will do that if i dont clear the internal memory before installing a card.

OOH.. never thought of that...
I am using a SB memory card for all pics. Does this still require the memory to be cleared? I assume your speaking of "events"?

I tried this.. I really need to find the manuel!!!  I dont see how to do this.

As I walk up to the camera I see the red lite go on as if it sees me. But no pic. I took it off the tree and moved it a couple hundred yards to a new area. I removed the card and installed a new one after trying to clear all events. i reset the settings to default.

When i got the pics I had three or four of the tree tops and my boots as I walked with the camera to its new location. (I purposefully left it on to see if this would do anything) So I do know the thing works.
I also see that other people only get a couple days out of a battery. mine is a large 6V abnd it shows full after being in the wodds for almost a month. I'm thinking this is bacuase its not doing anything. LOL.

I am heading out later to swap out the memory card so I'll update here later.
the one pic I did get was of a coyote and what looks like a skunk...

The Moultrie cameras do require internal memory to be wiped in order to use the card memory. How to do it I have no clue. These cameras also have a problem with a board inside them going bad which seems to prevent the use of the external memory card. It could be that's your problem but it also might be you just need to learn to wipe the internal memory.

Matt should be able to explain it to ya if you PM him and ask. He had several of these cameras to sell at one time and noticed the board problem with some and had to repair them.

Thanks again Bill!!

I just got back from retrieving the memory card. The run leading up to my camera is an absolute cow path to the grain!!! MUCHO tracks leading away. But this is a funnel area and could have deer from behind the camera using it.

I figured out how to delete pictures AND events!! I got two deer in my pics and one false shot. Then two pics of me, one setting up and one from just now.

So at least I know it is working. The one pic there with the hind legs was or appeared to be running. I have been reading that this camera is not the best for fast moving subjects...

Thanks for the help guys, @ least I have confirmed the bloomin' thing works!!

With it facing that much brush you might get lots of false images from wind blowing the brush. When we had our I60 down at my pond we had dozens of them from the wind blowing weeds in front of the camera. I think it filled the internal memory full and then stopped shooting.

LOL, Bill you funny.. Guess you haven't been up here in the woods much or recently.... brush, prickers, brambles what ever is all we have!!!  LOL

Well, I hadn't had too much activity, even with the obvious sign so I decided to run in and move the camera. W have some sever weather coming in tonight and I like to move it just before a rain as it knocks all scent down quickly. I placed the camera and pulled the card and skedaddle... I got home and lo and behold I had nine images, the most so far!!! I also selected video & pictures. MAN am I glad I did!!!

Best for last...

Horny Lil bugger!!! I assume this to be the Lil yearling spike.
