The coffee is on......
« on: November 22, 2009, 04:12:26 AM »
Well has everyone been sleeping here the last couple of days?

I thought maybe the fresh smell of ground coffee beans would wake some of you up.

Well thanks pal!   ;D  I gots to have me my coffee in the mornin'!  'specially if I'm just sitting around.

And I'm sitting 'cause I can't hunt, honey-do's a-waitin.   :(  Can't ride my bike... same reason, besides, it's raining.   :(  And Kathie hollers at me or comes in here (the computer room) every few minutes and just looks at me...  :(  wants me to get busy with the housework...  ::)

I'd sneak down to the gun room but she'd follow me...  :-\

So yes, I'd love another cup of coffee!   ;D

WHAT!?  WHAT'D YOU SAY HONEY?!  OF COURSE I AM... YES, YES I WILL!    AS SOON AS I FINISH MY COFFEE DEAR!    SOON LOVER BUMPKIN! SOON!      sheesh!  wimmins...

I can smell that coffee from here.   I have been keeping an eye on the Montana forum.  Pretty quiet.  A little supprised there is not more action with it being hunting season and all.   4" on the ground and snowing here in north Idaho.

I thought the coffee smell was because I am in Seattle right now!  Gee whiz there is a bunch of cars on the road all at once over here...and nobody waves back when you wave at them as they go by...

Been sick, gettin' well.  Too much work, not enough huntin'.  Gotta think about how to go hunting Thursday without gettin' in the doghouse.  Last year I cooked a big Turkey and all the fixin's, wife worked, most of the kids went to friends and I cleaned up the mess. ???  Guess I can take off after the meal and head northeast.  Still got tags left for the 700 area and a whitetail for the 400 area.  Got 3 in the freezer this year, not as good as last year, I put 6 in and the 15 year old put 1 in last year.  That's why it's called hunting and not target practice. ;D  Good luck to everyone this last weekend.  DP

Richard,

It's nice to see your tailor has finally found Montana fashion...you might want to add some Carhartt for formal attire.  You will look presentable when you come up for the 2nd Annual Cut Bank Cannon Convention...you will be bringing you cannon up, won't you!

You don't want one of those real big guns...they are much to closely related to work for my liking.

Something small and recreational like the latest one I just got.

I have to build a carriage for it...recreation making sawdust!

Well, general season is over for 2009 :'(,  I managed to get 2 more mulies Sat., nice birthday present for me.  Yearling is gonna be Jalapino summer sausage and the doe is straight summer sausage.  Trails End here in Billings does a great job on their meat, used 'em for the last 3 years.  Went to my cabin Thursday, 5 min. after getting there the biggest racked mulie buck I have seen hunting in Montana, strolled accross the property 200 yards behind the cabin.  And I had already filled my A tag. :(  Saw a NICE 6X6 bull elk right behind my land, permit only area of course. :(
But lots of game still around and did have 2 bald eagles spend 3 days in the "Turkey tree" that sets in the middle of my land, pretty darned neat.  Hope everyone had a good hunting season and put some meat in the freezer.  Got several unfilled tags, but had a great time this year again.  Only 47 more weeks to go till hunting season starts! ;D  I'll have another cup, please.  DP

Now remember I'm shooting a cheap H&R Handi Rifle that when purchased originally had a 7mm-08 barrel on it. I still have the barrel as you can add more barrels as you go along. I picked up a .204 Ruger barrel and headed up to my uncles place to sight in the scope. I'm using a BSA Sweet .223 scope with target turrets. I contacted BSA to find out if this scope would work with a .20 cal bullet, and they said it would.

Well my uncle went up with me to the upper pasture because he had never seen a .204 Ruger before, and only knew of the information that I found and read on the subject matter. He has a Remington 700 in .223 Rem and thinks that is the cats meow, and kept after me to just stay with the .223 cartridge.

Well I got my scope dialed in at 25 yards using the Caldwell lead sled, then turned and shot just one round at 100 yards. That first shot was high, and having a scope that can adjust quickly I turned the target turret and watched the retical crosshairs move up as I turned the turret up to that first fired hole in the target that was high. I then re-positioned myself on the center of the target, took a breath and fired. The attached picture is the end result and no I did not miss the dime, it is there to show for size comparison of the group with is less than a dime in size for 3 shots.

YES, I said 3 shots
This 3 shot 100 yard group speaks for itself, as I used the 32-gr Hornady V Max factory loads for testing.  The Handi Rifle was benched in a Caldwell lead sled for stable shooting.

Very nice JB!! That rifle is a shooter. Now, are going to carry that lead sled around with you when you hunt? ;D Just kidding JB, I use my lead sled for the same purpose, and it works well.

Hey Richard....since you gonna' buy some of them cannons, could I just borrow one sometime?  We used to have a big brass one over at the Confederate graveyard that we would sneak around and shoot off on Memorial day and when our high school won and when we were 'specially happy  ::)and other special occasions.  Some galoots stole it, and I ain't shot one since.
