What kind of solids do use? MONLITHIC SOLIDS?

I use A-Square Bullets MONOLITHIC SOLIDS. These will kill any animal.

When I "needed" solids I cast a hard lead bullet.  I guess that is monolithic.  I have since learned that for my hunting, 30-1 alloy is about right.

The only meaning I can get for MONOLITHIC is: something large and powerful that acts as a single unified force. So if the shoe fits wear it.

As it applies to solids for hunting the term actually was originally intended to me a single metal bullet construction as opposed to an older fashioned solid which had a core often of steel surrounded by a jacket of softer metal that would not harm the barrel.

I think they were made from bronze or brass or some such metal and while I'm not sure I recall it correctly I think the originals were turned on a lathe. The term has now kinda become generic so yeah to that end I guess one could call a hard cast lead bullet a monolithic solid tho it's unlikely to be hard enough or tough enough to truly qualify.

Well I guess then my 405 grn casts out of my .458 qualify as a solid.  You ask anything that's been shot by it, they will tell you it felt... uhm...  monolithic... actually they probably wont tell you anything, because 405 grains at 2400fps doesn't wait for an answer.

I guess that depends on the answer somebody would give you.

You might say that cast isn't a true monolithic, because it will slightly deform when it hits hard bone.  It will go right through it if it is a good hard cast, but you will make a dent.

Now if you are talking about monolithic solids that have a tungsten core surrounded by hardened copper, then you aren't going to find much that is going to bend it.  I never found a need to buy such an expensive bullet, espcially with the power my bigger guns put you.  I would trust a performance cast 405 grain wfngc up against anything around with my .458 lott.  If I am looking to shoot an elephant and get a full pass through, maybe I'll look for one of those hard metal super bullets, but not yet.

I spend too much money on barnes x-bullets in my mid bores to have to buy lead-free in my other guns!

It isn't monolithic by definition if it has a core and jacket made of different metals.

Monolithic is Monolithic I have no argument about that. What kind of solid do you use. My self I already made that clear. If you do not presently use one thats fine. But if you were to buy some what brand would you buy.

I have used Hornady solids, Woodleigh solids and Barnes mono solids. They all work well on big game! I once shot a bison through the front shoulders with a Barnes mono solid, never recovered the bullet. It went clean through the front of that bison, that was standing broadside. The bullet busted both shoulders and he simply dropped on the stop. This is something I never really exspected to happen but glad it did for our sake. Oh yes, the rifle was a model 70 Winchester .416 Remington magnum using 400 grain bullets.
