« on: November 25, 2009, 05:01:30 AM »
While I was baking a sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving (yea I do it all) I discovered the Carnation Evaporated milk cans are just under 2 1/2 inches in diameter. That got me to thinking.

mmmmmm sildes in real nice

nice fit but remember shake well.

The 'SHAKE WELL' on the lid is appropriate!   ;D

Heck, put a plywood sabot behind it and shoot it as-is.  I'm pretty sure the can won't rupture until impact, then if you're shooting at something solid you'll have a nice white spot where it hit.

Or you could go door-to-door wishing people a happy Thanksgiving and collecting their cans...

Hansen's sugar free natural drink, www.hansens.com is a perfect fit for my 2 1/4 napoleon. It's available at local safeway for about $2 a four pack. Tastes like hell but the can fits.

Rifleshooter2,
That's an interesting mortar; do you have any photos that show the breech area?

Boom J    Look at Rifleshooter2's additional info at the bottom of his profile page, sheet 3.  He has an excellent description of how he made that extraordinary grenade mortar complete with photos, nice ones.

Thanks, T&M; I missed that whole thread, somehow. I really like your grenade launcher, Rifleshooter2.

Mixes well with cheap brandy (Korbel) or vodka.

Try sweetened condensed milk can for size.  If this fits punch two vent holes in top and cook can in waterbath overnight at 250 degrees I think.  Milk will turn to carmel.  Stuff gets way down on price it could be cheap recipe for home cooked load.

While not calling anyone a liar, the evap milk cans I have measure about 2 15/16" plus a little.  Must be more than one size (these are 12 fl oz.)

There's your problem I was using 5 oz cans

the can body is 2.472 and the rim is 2.537

Slides right in my mortar the bore is 2.565 a nice fit for tennis balls
