Hello the fire! From Wyoming!
« on: November 26, 2009, 04:21:17 AM »
This is a really nice site!

I have a deep love of the outdoors, enjoy hunting & fishing, own a few toys, and even do a little reloading too.

Welcome!! It's quite a party!!

What part of Wyoming? I don't live there now, and I'm from Maine originally, but it is my adopted home.

Thanks all!

Hey Sweetwater, I've lived a good chunk of my life in Saratoga, Green River (Still have family there), and now in Casper.

Great! My great uncle homesteaded the Diamond A ranch on the hill going south out of Saratoga. I lived in Green River for 18years, last job was with WyDOT, but worked at Tg until they sold out to FMC, and Black Butte Coal before all that. The hunting was better there than up here in North Idaho!

You've got some nice pics on your previous posts (viewed on your profile page). I, too, really like my '86 Winchester. Mine is circa 1887 and chambered for 40-82WCF.

Hey Sweetwater,

Checked out your privous post.  I thought I was reading some of my own stuff!  Lol

You know, we might have shot together at the FMC range at a IHMSA match.

Also, I don't use a lube pad (to messy, and trouble).  I have been using Lyman one-shot spray lube for years. Lol

Thanks for the kind words! I actually was Rangemaster at the FMC range 90-91. I started shooting IHMSA in 88, I think it was, and ended with my divorce. My ex was determined to keep going and so I backed away - too many memories and I couldn't cope with her acting like all was well. Ted Remus took over upon my departure. Dan Meserve was a long-time friend (it was he that got me into casting. He had the outfit and no time.) Garth Huff relined the barrel on my great grandfather's 73Wincheseter 38WCF serial # dates it 1883 as well as a letter from Winchester dated 1950 stating it was shipped May 1883. I was a year old.

That one-shot works good. My Dad started using that about 10 years ago. I stayed with UNIQUE as it worked for me and cleaned up almost too easily. and lasts forever! I just cleaned out Dad's stuff and he still had a tub of UNIQUE left from years ago, so I'm probably fixed for life.

If you read my previous posts, than you probably figured out my Dad and I have a special relationship. All 4 of the elk I guided him into came off White Mountain, within 2 miles of Pilot Butte. What amazed him as much as anything was that we could have that kind of open country hunting and still get in close. His last one was 65 yards! AND we were never over 15 miles from my house on Tennessee Dr in Green River so he had a real bed and a real cook! My wife is the greatest!

Jeff

I wasn't going to comment but I have a hard time beleiving you were one year old in 1883.  Could this have maybe been a typo?

I don't know Ted,

But my Brother-inlaw and Dan where best friends.  Dan is who got me started too.  Lol

And Garth!  That man had a great basement, blew me away when he showed me his lathe, and the projects he was working on.  I was the Pres for the Boars Tusk Action Shooters, but got transfered to Cheyenne in Feb 2000, to bad the club folded that summer.  Sweetwater, thanks!  You brought back some great memoirs!

Maybe a little misplaced grammar. I was a year old in 1950, when my grandfather got the letter from Winchester stating that great grandfathers 73Winchester was shipped in May 1883. Sometimes I get in a hurry and what makes perfect sense in my thoughts gets lost wandering around the keyboard.

Garth transferred several guns for me and I bought a great NEI mold from him for my 41mag that he borrowed for his 40-60 Marlin. I could never get it back from him, so we did a little dealing and preserved the friendship. Seems that bullet worked better than any other in his rifle. He remains a great friend.
