I had a hard time getting 777 to fire unless I crushed some powder and put it in the bolster.

That's an indication the fire channel is a dirty. It could be that a little oil from storage or even some of the packing grease from the gun being new was left in the bolster area or the bottom of the barrel when it's been fired. If that happens the powder residue and heat mixed with the petroleum product will turn into a really hard gunk almost like tar.
Every thing needs to be clean and dry,
Those CVA and Traditions breechplug/drum bolsters are a darn magnet for gunk! Ya really gotta get in there with pipe cleaners an q-tips and anything else you can think of to clean that out, brakecleaner spray, then soapy water with the barrel submerged in the solution and a pump action. I've even gone as far as putting the bottom of the barrel in a tincan of gas and pumping the stuff in/out of the bolster to clean it.
Ya gotta clean them things till a white cleaning patch comes out white
