.223 Barrel?
« on: November 26, 2009, 01:40:46 PM »
I'd like to send a receiver in for a .223 barrel, but which one? With H+R now offering 6 different .223 barrels through their barrel accessory program, I'm not sure which one to get? My main use would be for hunting groundhogs.

Superlight or a standard contour for a carry rifle, 22" bull barrel would be a good compromise and likely the most popular, short and accurate.  ;)

At some point when money permits I'd like to get a Superlight .223 for a dedicated 'yote gun. Unfortunately I'm going through a divorce right now so I don't have money for such things :(

As long as I keep it from getting hot, would the super light barrel have decent accuracy?

The 223 SL isn't as bad as the 243, wouldn't be my pick for a prairie dog rifle, but for g-hogs or coyotes it would be great.  ;)

Lighter rifles have become more and more attractive each year. A light weight 20" barrel makes a lot of sense and would even be nice when I just want something to tote in the woods.

You're telling me, I carried my 26" 25-06 Ultra one day this year, packed it a good 5 miles, even when slung it wasn't comfortable. I'm workin on a 20" Superlight 260 Rem, 6.5x55 or 7mm-08 in the new synthetic stock for next year!  ;D

All good choices. I've owned a few 7mm-08s and one 6.5x55, but just recently bought my first .260 and love it. Recoil like a .243.

I absolutely agree. My deer rifle is a 45 Colt Carbine with no optics just because light weight is so important to me. My back does not enjoy lugging a heavy rifle all day.
