Gun Club Membership $$ in your area??
« on: November 26, 2009, 01:45:50 PM »
I just sent in my application for a local gun club.  They have a nice pistol range, rifle ranges from 50 to 400 yards, sporting clays, trap, 5 stand, 3d archery and a nice club house.  Best of all 10 mins from my house.  I thought the cost was reasonable.  To get in you have to buy a "share" in the club for $500, and pay a yearly fee of $175.  If you put in 16 hours working the club, the yearly fee is dropped to $75.  If and when you decide to leave the club, the $500 share fee is refunded..

Just wondering what the going rates were in other parts of the country??

I am a member of 3, all 5-15 minutes away. First is empty most of the time. 4 benches and I can shoot from inside the clubhouse in the winter. 25-200 yards. No work.  NRA membership required. Second has a really nice clubhouse that they rent for parties. 100 yard range and trap shooting. 25 acres of deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels, and coyotes hunted by no one but a couple of members. 3rd has a 25 yard basement range. and two 100 yard outdoor ranges, trap shooting and a bass pond. 8 hours required. Each monthly meeting counts as a hour. Each club is $25 a year. Initiation fees are $0-$50.

I have 10 acres and my invisible neighbor has 100+ acres that I could shoot/hunt legally on to the degree that the other neighbors don't complain. The ranges are more social and safer with kids and dogs around.

We have one club up north of me, that requires a $110.00 yearly fee, but they fail to do any up keep on the range when retractors are broken or lights need to be replaced.  I told them to shove it, as I can go anywhere outdoors just minutes from my house and shoot.  I can also head up to my uncles place in the upper pasture that is set up with the longest yardage out to 330 yards.

Sounds like a sweet set-up LM.
Our's;  $50 per year $25 first year initiation,,3 ranges,, out too 50 yrd pistol,, out too 100 rifle,, and a single trap range.
$25 off for 8 hrs labor. Private,,membership capped at 425,,immediate household family only. That's nice, things don't get messed with,, people follow the rules and have respect for each other.
We allow 3 local PD and 2 county Sheriff Dept to practice/train with full auto,,and formal squad shoots.

The other in town is bigger,,$140 per year,, 50-100 and 200 yrd rifle range,,50 yrd pistol, and 20m Tactical pistol, plus it's a trap club with several bunkers. But it's open to the public for a 20 perhead/perday pass and you can get all kinds of clowns out there, it can ruin your session if there are loud, obnoxious or otherwise clueless of range etiqutte folks around.
This is the one the PD and SD left,,they still use the Tactical Pistol Range for training, but they close all other shooting for those days.

It can be unpleasant when you get guests. Last time I went to my mostly empty range, on the 2nd day of deer season, another member brought his buddy with an $8k Barrett .50 and $500 of ammo to burn up. After deciding that ear plugs and electronic muffs were not sufficient doubled up to deal with the blast in covered benches, I went inside the clubhouse to change scopes. They were nice enough to let me play with the gun briefly.

I belong to a small club with a 75 yard range and a trap range. $25 a year for the whole family.

Wreckhog,
I think we're related and I need to move in with my long lost relative. ;D  How convenient are those places for you!!

And I thought I had it good.....I once belonged to a range in S. IN that costs $60 yearly and work assistance was highly encouraged but not mandatory.  The range has only 2 seats for 100yd shooting, 2-3 seats for 50yd, 3-4 for 25yd and 2-3 for standing 10yd pistol shooting. They do have a trap range, but I haven't seen anyone shooting there for years.

$75 first year, $50 after that. Work days encouraged, but not required. 20 minutes from home.
15, 2-25 & 50 yd pistol/rimfire ranges (about 15 positions total), 50-250 yd rifle range (12? positions), clay and archery ranges, and special purpose range for action pistol, bowling pin, PD shoots, etc.
1200 member cap, waiting list every year.  Seldom crowded, I've been out there by myself many times.
Other ranges in area, a little further away, same general price point, some require work, some don't.

The only gun club I ever belonged to required full time participation, 24/7/365. Some even gave there lives for the club. I didn't have to be an NRA member either and watch them give away our freedoms in order to get the most minor concessions. Oddly, no one required me to go unarmed on a military base in the U.S. either!

My club has 2 indoor pistol ranges and 1 outdoor.  The rifle ranges are a little confusing.  There is a 300/600 yard.  There is a 200 yard that crossed the 300/600 yard.  There is a bench rest range that has targets at 25, 50, 100 and 185 yards with 8 benches.  There are three outdoor walled ranges for plinking and messing around.  In the back 40 there are the competition ranges for cowboy and combat pistol.  $125 per year unless you put in 10 hours of work.  Then it drops to $75.  There are about 500 members, but unless there is a competition or an organized practice, the range is a very lonely place ;D.  The only problem is that I have to drive 25 minutes to get there.

The range I joined has 3 pistol ranges, 100-300 yard rifle range, w/covered firing line.  To join was $300, and the annual fee is $100.  The range has insurance through the NRA.

$25 per year, no initiation fee. Indoor 35yd pistol & 22 range, trap or skeet outside, covered rifle ranges at 35, 50, 100, and something like 180 or 220 yards, covered 22 range at 50, 100, & 150 yards. Non- covered 50yd shotgun-muzzleloader range, and non-covered 50yrd pistol range. They have a clubhouse and work days are volunteer only. Open to hunting for the public.

Luckily, there are several in the area, but it depends upon what you are looking for.
The newest is an indoor only facility, I believe it's $175 per year PLUS $10 per range visit!

There is a bench rest club across the river in MN, not sure how much that one is and it's in MN so I avoid it.

There is a shotgun/rifle/handgun combination outside of town that was $5 per visit, no real facilities and the one and only time I was out there they had a sign up with something close to the following, If there are tractors in the field to the NE don't shoot.  It was surrounded by grain fields! :/

The last one is 22 miles out of town, BUT it is FREE!! They have five covered concrete benches and berms at 25, 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards.  It is sponsored by the county sportsman's club but they do not require membership to use the range.  You may have to wait a bit to shoot, but that usually isn't more than 15-20 minutes for a bench to open up.  I usually spend the time in line unloading the vehicle anyhow! ;)

I belong to a couple!!

The local one for me I am only a "social" member. this means I only have access to the ranges. $60 per year. No other responsibilities. I keep this one as its really close to the house and very convenient from work. (Like five minutes away!!)

My main club is $150 a year, with 50 of that an assessment for some land we purchased two years ago. that should be paid off in a couple. baring any other expenses, the dues should go back to 100 per year. 10 Hours per year "duties as required".

The last club is my pistol club. This one is a family membership, $125 per year.

Lastly of coarse is the NRA. Of witch I am a life member. ;D ::)

Wow! That sounds absolutely awesome. My club is $25/per year and all I get is a 100 yard oudoor range(closed 6 months of the year and no covers)and that is it. Better than no club though.

There are two that I frequent. One charges an annual $25 membership fee with a $10 range fee and is indoors. It's close to home and I only use it when the weather is bad.  The other is an outdoor range that has a $35/year membership fee and a $3.00 range fee.  It includes a 200, 100, 50 yard rifle range and a covered pistol range.  It also offers trap and skeet but I believe the range fees are higher for the use of those facilities.

River Bend Gun Club, http://www.rbgc.org/ , $700 to join, I think, and $300 a year.  Strangely enough ranges are pretty scarce around Atlanta.  I guess mostly because people shoot in their back yard most of the time...  :-\  I used to... 'till I decided to get civilized, married, and move to a sub-division...  :'(

$300 the first year which buys you a share of the land.  After that its $65 a year.  You are required to be an NRA member and do 2 workdays a year.

The range consist of a shotgun range, 50 meter, 100 meter, 200 meter, and a handgun range.

Rod & Gun club:  $40. annual fee, 20, 25, 50, 100 & 200 yard outdoor range, + indoor winter pellet pistol league & summer trap league.

Outdoor range can  be used w/o supervision during all daylight hours, seldom is anyone else using it when I go.

Here are a couple of pictures of the club I belong to. The dues start at $75 per year. If you work at the range in the summer, $25 is removed from your dues. If you are an NRA member, an additional $25 is removed. So, $25 may be the minimum cost for a range that extends to 1000 yards. An outdoor pistol range is adjacent to the rifle range. There is also an indoor pistol range in town if one wants to use that as well. I feel it is an incredible bargain.

It is $35 per year here in Livingston,Mt.
It is the best $35 I can spend. I realy enjoy going to the range. You have to get used to the wind, but still fun.

Lots of clubs in this area (Altoona,Pa.) there are at least 5(only one has application fees) within a 1/2 hour drive. Cost 10 to 50 dollars, all have Trap, but no skeet. All have at least 25 to 100 yd. One has 1000 yd. 200-300-600 we shoot high power rifle there. Since I moved to the country,my main range is only 5 min. away.
My big problem is finding time to go,I have been working 7 days a week, for months now. Which is good for the money, but no time to enjoy it. Oh well should be retiring in about 2 to 3 years, then look out  ;D

Club facilities include High Powered Rifle Range from 200 to 1000 yards, Bench Rest Range to 200 yards, Pistol Range up to 50 yards, Action Pistol Range, Junior Smallbore and Air Rifle Range (indoor and outdoor), Silhouette Pistol and Rifle Range, 2 Electric Skeet fields, 20 station Sporting Clays Field, Wobble Trap, 2 heated and air-conditioned club houses and Picnic and Family Recreation areas.

Club Meetings are the last Monday of each month, with a special dinner meeting each year in January and an annual Club Picnic each May in recognition of Memorial Day.

There are organized competitive shoots for rifle, pistol, shotgun and black powder each month. Matches for which NRA has programs are NRA certified.

Classes for learning how to shoot, Marksmanship instruction and Oklahoma Concealed Carry are available, taught by State and NRA certified instructors, all of whom are club members.

The Monthly Newsletter keeps membership informed of meeting times, special programs, legislation pertaining to firearms laws and any changes in the published Competitions and Events Schedule. These changes can also be found on the Announcements page on the website.

The club is located on the 31,000 acre Zink Ranch, adjacent to Skiatook Lake, 9 miles north of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, on HWY 97.

We have members from many states besides Oklahoma. The club dues are a mere $120 per year, with an initial one time fee of $150. Memberships are 'Family' (i.e. member named on the application, member’s spouse and member’s children under age 18 living in member’s home).

Best range in the area. Joined last year.
