.357max w/Nosler Silhouette

I posted this on the T/C handgun forum but I'm getting no responses. Am I the only guy loading 180 grain Nosler Silhouettes in my max? They shoot pretty good at paper targets, I haven't shot at steel sils yet. Anybody have any luck with these or is there something else that is better/same/cheaper that I need to try? Mike

I shoot these guys with AA1680 (actually WC680 surplus) in a Dan Wesson Super Mag. I think they're a little cheaper but they work great on the rams. You shouldn't have any problems with the Noslers.

I don't use the Noslers, but I got a thousand 180 grain Speer sillywet bullets and they shoot extremely accurately with AA1680 and H110.

I have shot them in my TC and DW with H4227.  My cast bullets are just as accurate and are cheaper.  I went back to the cast.  Never a problem with hitting or knockdown.

Enjoy,

something that you should know - the 180 Noslers have been discontinued. May serve you to explore other brands, that is, unless you have a pile of them laying around !

I wonder if the patient is always the last to know the bad news.  TC is no longer selling 10 inch barrels thru the normal channels, Nosler is no longer making 180 silhouette bullets for the .357.  Rampro went out of business, XP 100's are special order only.  The silhouette shooting sports are simply not a market that anyone is much interested in supplying cause it is sooooo very small in terms of participation.  I believe Silhouette went down the IPSC trail of overspecialization and left its base in the process.  Shooting steel is still fun, but the equipment is now so far out in speciallized space that you need a telescope to see a match.

The lesson that has been learned and forgotten over and over is that the man who needs rule changes so his scores will improve will kill the sport in the long run.  You are much better off with a large base of lower scoring members than a few high scoring equipment racers.  The decline in members, and ultimately in the availability of equipment is inevitable unless you take care of the base and understand why they came to the sport in the first place.   7BR brass is just another example, while 7.62 x 39 brass is everywhere.  Both have about the same case capacity yet one is hugely popular and the other is not.

The Max was an answer to a "problem" that should never have existed, "Sticky Rams".

MF,
I have a TC 14" in 357 Maximum.  I have never fired a jacketed bullet in it.  It likes a 200 grain Gas Checked bullet by RCBS or Saeco.  With 17 grains of IMR4227 this baby will knock over any kind of sticky rams at 200 meters.  I have also, used these bullets with 13 grains of IMR 4227.

I tried 180 grain plain based bullets from Oregon Trail Bullet Company and a Saeco 180 plain base that I cast.  The 180 does not work as well.

If you can hold the gun steady enough, you will be amazed at the accuracy.
