Broken Hammer Spring? Maybe?
« on: November 27, 2009, 04:22:47 PM »
OK, so I have a problem. While shooting my contender the other day, something bad happened. I may have had the hammer pulled back, i'm not sure, but when I opened the action I heard a pop. Now the hammer is stuck in the forward position and will not move. How bad is it? Did I mess it up pretty bad? Please help. Thanks.  Jumpsteady

My broken hammer spring let the hammer loose, no tension. It may be the hammer has gone past the primary sear [or what ever it's called] and jammed. Remove the grip, use a 3/16 punch and remove the hammer pin. This should allow the hammer to back off and come out. Look for wear or foreign objects. My gunsmith informs me T/C has had hammer issues over the years, this may be one. I would replace the hammer spring unless this is a very new gun.

Got hammer fixed today. Hammer spring was not broken, but had so how slipped off of something inside the hammer. The guy that fixed it put in a new hammer spring and generally cleaned the insides up. In, out, and done in 30 minutes. And charged me $15. I'm just glad its fixed.
