25-06, H4350 100 grain Sierra?

Hi There,

      Never had any dealing with the 25-06 before so suggestions for loading recipes using H4350 would be appreciated. I thought of using 100 grain bullets at first but am willing to re-think that should advice be different.

Oh yes I do have some reloading manuals but do need a new Hodgdons one as mine is #26  :-[. I also have Speer #13 to hand but Speer don't list H4350 only IMR 4350.

      Now the intended use is for Deer and Red Fox, remember that most of our deer species are smaller than your Whitetails and Roe the intended first target species weigh between 40lbs-60lbs in weight, Fallow if I am lucky can reach 140lbs.

With the powder capacity of the 25-06, I would consider the 120 grain bullets. You can push them to 3000fps if needed or load them down for less meat destruction. The 100's will work just fine though.

Ahhh just checked the powder stock and nope  :-[ I did find a nearly full tub of IMR 4350 but the IMR 4831 tin is just about empty as is the Reloader 19. The H4350 is a new tub originally brought to service the .243 Winchester and bearing in mind the horrendus price of powder here now. The tub of H4350 was £36 ($57:60 US) so buying another tub is not high on the agenda right now.

The 100g Nosler Part. over 50g of IMR 4350 was a very consistent load out of my 25/06 Handi rifle , a nice mid level load with good speed and down range proformance .

Not sure what you have for bullets to chose from over there .

It seems we can get the Bergers and we can order the Sierras if they do not have them in stock. I didn't see which ones they have but I did see some Combined Tech bullets. They also have Noslers and Hornady's but we have to order them in the .25 cal.

Hodgdon doesn't issue large loading manuals anymore.  You can buy the 'annual' manuals in magazine form, or even better go to their website to get the most recent data: http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

Yes, the Hodgdon site has loads for H4350 for a whole range of bullets
from 75gr to 120gr. They got 3155fps out of the 50.0gr charge weight
with the 100gr mentioned above.

Nosler lists IMR 4350 as the single most accurate powder-bullet weight depends on what you think you need- 80-250 pound
 whitetails have fallen to mine-115 BT or NP-- I have some 100 gr Sierras but have not used them on game--never felt the need-- my muzzle velocity is 3100-- with a listed load in Nosler manuel --49 gr IMR 4350 @3090-- I have shot the 100s  with 52 gr of IMR 4350-- they are a little flatter being faster- either powder and any of the 100 gr- should do ya proud--

h4350 with 100 gr bullet  50 gr =3155 fps   53.5 is max load at 3320fps

Hmmmm I was not aware of that  :-[ the last Hodgdons manual I saw offered for sale was the loose leaf binder type and I didn't like it so much so didn't buy one  ::) as for the Annual ones, have seen them mention on US forums and in US magazines but I have never seen them even advertised over here  ??? so will have to look into getting one as of course #26 does not have a lot of the newer powders like Varget in it. I wonder if stopping the Mannuals has anything to with their acquiring IMR powders?

I also notice that Speer have #14 out so I might have to acquire a copy but it only having Speer Bullets in it limits it's usefulness  :( to me anyway.

Now I am taking notes on these suggestions...  ;D thank you all and I will checking out the bullets on offer in the local shop on the way home from the range this afternoon .......... yep the gunshop there is open evrey day except Christmas day.

     4350 is the only powder for my 25-06, 53.5 grains behind 85 grain Nosler Ballistic tips. It works on everything from deer down. Yes I know the 85 grain Nosler is a varmit bullet but it will take a whitetail out pronto at 350 yards. This combo is right at 3600fps and very accurate. Although I use AA4350 not H4350 (they do not call it Accurate Arms for nothing)

  Lyman's 49th edition lists 52gr of IMR 4350 as the most accurate load with 100gr Sierra's.  I tried them and they were right.  Two touching and the third went through one of the other holes.  Not sure I'll use them on our deer here but coyotes will be ducking for cover.

I agree with azarkie!! I use an 85gr. bellistic tip with 55gr. of imr4350 and it works great on deer!!!!! I use what I know works!!! I have killed deer a long ways out using this load!!! I know the drop and am comforabe shooting 500 yards!!! But I would prefer 400 and under!!! Get to know your rifle and caliber and you will be fine!!
