Carronader,

I'm sorry if I have insulted you with my choice of beverage ::). But I have made the adjustment on my gentlemens drink over the years while firing my cannons from Wild Irish Rose to Johnny Walker Blue and not to forget a fat hand rolled cuban cigar sitting in my beach chair with both feet in the kiddie pool.. Now let me switch over fleabay and check on my bidding for that kilt.. ;D

this is a serious answer Dan.............you need a butt for a kilt to sit properly........my mother used to say I haven't got one because the Good Lord used it all on my mouth...........true ! I have never worn one ,but I would have gone traditional.........................Campbell Tartan in honour of my mother........and barrel as nature intended. My son wears his sometimes

From another (mostly) Scottish man, I came by it legit, my Great Great Great Grandfather was Levi Scott, founder of a burg by the same name here in Oregon, and trailblazer of the Scott/Applegate Trail. He was from the Scott border clan, located a bit south of Edinburgh, where the family castle still is. This branch of the Scott clan connects to the Sinclair branch, who built Roslyn Chapel (so I've been told! Never been there.) One place I do want to have on my bucket list. Double D, I knew they had a cannon here in Port Orford, been told it was a Mt. Howitzer, which now resides in San Francisco, somewhere...in a park most likely collecting seagull droppings   :-\

The MT. Howizter was at Fort Orford...I was thinking about the Gun the Capt Tichenor carried for the Coastal Ship Sea Gull, a 4 PDR Signal gun.

Double D, was that used in the fight at Battle Rock? I don't remember that one, I'll check it out with a local historian...

I haven't worn my kilt in over 40 years since the moths chewed a hole in an inappropriate place.
Nonetheless, I am partial to Bells 12 yr old and Dewar's Ancestor 12 yr old.
Last time I wore the kilt, 2 old maidens passed out when I bent over to pick up a croquet mallet. Musta been the heat.
No offense to gentlemen beer drinkers, but if it don't burn, I don't drink it.  ;D

It does me. Projectile vomiting. Even 'really good' vodka (does it exist?) does not agree with me at all.

I saw that!

As long as you relate to cannon shooting, like it's your favorite beverage after a long day shooting cannons.  Or you use it to prevent snake bite when in the wild lands of the Montana prairie...

Mom use to work for Bells, said they always had problem with night watchmen...they were alwasy drunk on the job...go figure? They gave her a bottle of whiskey every month, and when she got home her Dad would take it.  Neither Mom or Grand dad shot cannons.

Years ago, I was asked to fire my cannon at an historic site. While there, they had a "Bonniest Knees" contest. I won't go into detail about how the young lady judged us but I came away with first prize. The plaque still hangs on our w.c. wall. Now to answer the age-old question, "What is worn under a Scotsman's kilt?". From experience, I can tell you, "Nothing is worn. I'm in perfect condition" ;)

O.K. Double D....do your stuff.

Rich,
Don't you have any sweet wholesome anecdotes that you can relate to us, maybe about a sleigh ride in Vermont after a snowfall had just left a glistening fresh white blanket on the ground. Then again, no, you'd probably start expounding about what was happening under the blanket in the sleigh. ;)

what goes on under a man's tartan (be it rug , kilt , or blanket) is nobody's bizness but his own. Now....a Swedish cannon sled (sleigh) with full load..........ooooooooooooo........love to see that........what happens on firing........where does sled go........how far........does it tip over........Sleigh ride in Vermont ???????????????????????  yea.........very exciting.

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, I try so hard, but I just can’t seem to please you. Maybe if I make a few changes to the story line. First of all, lets forget about that homely plaid stuff, this is America boyo, so Richard has a solid red blanket on his lap, and his companion in the sleigh is his pretty wife (after all this is a family forum). OK, you want a cannon, that’s easy, Richard has a cannon under the blanket; he already told us this in a previous post, and I for one believe him, because I think he’s a trustworthy type of a guy, and on top of that, he won an award because of the fact. Now what else can I add that would really hold your interest, of course, I don't know how I didn't think of this earlier. Richard is utterly sloshed on that iodine tasting, brain rotting poison that some people refer to as scotch (Richard, please forgive me this bit of fiction, I'm just trying to stimulate the poor guy's imagination). That's right, my lionhearted friend is four sheets to the wind; and then what does he do? Yes, you guessed it, he reaches under the blanket, and pulls out his ............... laptop, (fooled ya, didn't I) and then begins to log in to the GBO BPMC forum, but his wife being the intelligent, vivacious (and perhaps more importantly, sober) lady that she is, takes the computer away from him, and says: Richard, you can't go on the forum in this condition, you will make a complete and utter ass of yourself, you will only babble, prattle, and bore with your abject, alchohol induced supercilliousness. Richard then thanked his wise wife for stopping him from making a fool of himself, and taking the reins, he directed the horses back in the direction of the Vermont B&B where they were staying. I think that it's possible that there may even be some fellows here that could reap some benefits from this fable. Oy vey, I almost forgot, you wanted to know if a cannon firng would make the sleigh rock and roll, teeter and totter, perchance even flip over. Well, the answer is no it wouldn't, and if you'd read a few books, you might know this without having to witness it. In any case, we couldn't find out on this fine winter evening in Vermont, because Ballantine's worst had a negative affect on the cannon, and our protagonist couldn't get it to function; you know how that goes, dontcha? The End.
