Powerbelt results

Having read the many disparaging comments re Powerbelt bullets over the years, I can't help but comment on their inefficacy, as in a 125 pound 4 point buck tagged with a copper clad hollow point 295 grain from a 50 cal CVA (another favorite) Kodiak Pro sitting over two 50 gr Triple Seven pellets. Shot at 75 yards with complete pass through with a massive blood trail of 40 yards until pile-up. Can't help but wonder how I managed this with, according to many experts, a substandard gun and bullet. The backstraps are excellent, thank you.

I thought that I had a pretty good muzzleloader. I have a kodiak mag also. I have killed deer at 170,157,163,120, and just over 100 yards and a couple that were only 60 and 65 yards away with mine. I stopped using the powerbelts only because I found other bullets that shot better at longer distances. Only people that say my kodiak mag is a cheap worthless gun are the folks that spent 3x as much as I did on my rifle and don't want to feel bad about there purchase.

Powerbelts have been good to me.  Once I had the chance to double, and while reloading as fast as I could I only loaded one pellet of 777, the boom wasn't as loud but the second deer was just as dead as the first and didn't run either.  The substandard gun is more about looks or finish and doesn't matter as soon as the bullet takes off.  And I use .45, a substandard caliber, on top of it all.

Nothing wrong with the Kodiak or the Powerbelts.  Maybe not quite as accurate as sabots, but a lot easier to load, especially when cold.  If you hit it it kills it.  Congtats on the deer.

One of the biggest problems with Powerbelts is they do not like to be overpowered. For some reason there are those that think they must use 150gr. of powder to shoot less than 100 yards. It is apparent that you are not one of those. I had similar good results with Powerbelts in my Omega as long as the load was bullets around 300gr and about 80gr. of Black Mag3. The Powerbelts were the only thing that my Omega would accept after the first shot so they were my follow up bullet and when necessary functioned just fine. I have T/Cs, NEF, Whites, Lyman and a CVA Optima Elite. Have looked at other newer model CVA rifles and they are definately not below standard for function and performance.

I too have had great results with powerbelts.
I find my CVA 50 optima really likes the 300 grain platinums with 2 X 50 triple seven
I shot a deer at 75 yards with through pass threw on a lung shot, she ran up hill for 10 yards and down hill 20 yards. She was dead when I got to her.
I zero and practice with 295 HP to save money and confirm zero with 2 platinum shots. And use the platinum's for hunting
