I think there are only about four or five mosques in the whole country. They've seen what's been going on with problems from Moslems in countries like France and Sweden, and they have made a decision not to allow their country to go down the same path.

I don't think it was the mosques, just the minarets (mosque bell towers for lack of a better term)

Still, Muslims are ticked that this important part of their religion is being infringed upon.

Nearly 58% of Swiss voters Sunday cast their ballots in favor of banning the construction of new minarets in the Alpine republic, a surprise result that led at least one Swiss member of parliament to declare that "the foundations of Switzerland's direct democracy have failed."

That is clearly wrong. Swiss direct democracy shows its mettle when Swiss voters use it to stand up to their political elites, as happened here. Having said that, Sunday's vote, for all the hand-wringing leading up to it, was a decidedly mild-mannered sort of protest. The construction of new minarets is banned, but the building of mosques is unaffected, and the vote does not affect the four existing minarets in the country. Nobody's freedom of worship is threatened, but a symbolic message has been sent.

The towers are used in Islamic countries to sound the call to prayer, and also symbolically in non-islamic countries to remind the devout, and not so devout of the physical presence of their religion.

For them, it's a big deal.  Kind of like telling you that you can't put a nativity in your front yard.

Sorry to hear that, I'd hoped the mosques were  outlawed. their mosques are their lairs, where hatred and death are preached and taught. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Questor.  Perhaps they have seen what's going on in muslin countries like America.  We are over run with them, just look around, and they are increasing daily.  They control several cities already; Yamama has placed several radical muslins in sensitive government positions, how long before they are totally running our government?

I look at this somewhat like a computer virus.  You get one, you know you have it, but do nothing to correct the problem, eventually it wipes your computer out..............is this how America goes? ???

It is my opinion that the next war will be fought on American soil with the non-muslins defending themselves from being enslaved by the muslin movement.  They have a lot of money and backing to accomplish this, Saudi being one of the major contributors to groups out to destroy the American way of life.

Stay armed and keep your powder dry!!!!!!!!

You may indeed be partly right... the part about American soil that is... but all those who think that this is all over religion... then you got the hook in your mouth and the barb has broken through to the other side... so pull like hell till you rip it out then lick your wounds and open your eyes to what the hell is really going on.... nuff said...

The Saudis have lots of money, they don't have the global network and control into just about anything that makes money, controls public opinion, start wars. That's another bunch that is doing that.

The swiss had already restricted the 4 minarets in the country through noise ordinances to prevent them from being used to call for prayers.

I'm sure there is some carefully thought out reason behind this. For me it is just adding another ingridient to the stew pot.
