Trap Gun stock on a rifle?
« on: November 30, 2009, 07:46:17 AM »

I can't find any parts/price listing showing the trap stock.  I looks like a good one for a scoped rifle.

Anyone have one on a rifle?

The last time someone asked H&R to sell the Trapgun stock, they said no, but they may have changed their policy now, the old part number for the stock is S04116 $58.60 and forend S04117 $32.85, prices are a year old, so expect more if they'll sell em, there may be a prefix change to FR if they don't come up with the right parts with those numbers.

Something like that looks so much better than the stocks they have on the rifles now, I don't see why they don't try to make them more appealing to the eye.

Generally speaking all shotguns stocks are made to place your eye in alignment with the bead or beads which are VERY low on the barrel, even lower than iron sights on rifles. My guess would be that on a scoped rifle a shotgun stock would require you to take your head off the stock to see thru the scope no matter how low it's placed.

I agree it's a far nicer stock than any they put on rifles but dimensions of it as a shotgun stock might not be compatible with scope use unless you like having your "block off the stock".

The Topper Deluxe Classic stock set is checkered walnut, all ya have to do is order em as Swampie did, I've got two sets of em too, both on scoped rifles, as with all wood stocks, some are nicer than others.  ;)

The single biggest complaint I have against their stocks is that they refuse to even make an attempt to fit them to the metal. Most all stand tall from it by a HUGE amount. It's a sign of poor shoddy workmanship to make no attempt at all to have it at least close to a proper fit.

That's one of the things that Ilion has addressed, even Gardner made improvements, my 2007 38-55 has much better fit than most of my older H&Rs, take a look at the fit of Swampie's latest stock set.
