I want to get another rifle i have an A-bolt II 325wsm and want something smaller to hunt/target shoot with and the winchester/browning low wall in 243win looks really cool. I am interested to see if any of you guy's have any experience with them?

Used to kinda wish I still did. In fact I had a .243 and a .22 Hornet. The LW243 was one of the most accurate rifles I've owned. It generally shot most any load into 0.4" to 0.8" for three shots at 100 yards. It absolutely loved the Hornady factory load with their lightest V-Max (either 55 or 58 grains can't recall which) and shot them into less than a quarter of an inch at 100 yards.

My favorite loads for it used Nosler 90 grain BTs and Hornady 65 V-Max bullets. It ran both right around a half inch regularly. I was very foolish letting that one get away from me.

I've got one and echo what Bill said.  Mine loves Speer 100 gr. Boat Tails and Nosler 55 gr. BT's!  If I were to get another it would be in .260 though.   ;)

Well Richard, I've got two of them and one is in 260. There so light that the 260 recoils quite a bit more than my 243 does.

The 260 is the rarest caliber in the browning low-walls so take lots of cash if you do find one. There was one on gunbroker a couple of weeks ago with a buy now price of $2495.  :o

I think in this rifle the 243 is the best caliber. 100gr cor-loks kill big whitetails just fine.  ;D

sounds like i should start saving my pennies  ;D I really wish they would offer it in 260 again and maybe some other cool rounds like the 257bob or 6.5x55 and 7x57 and all the 308 based stuff besides 243win. I think it would make a sweet little elk rifle if they offered it in 338 federal.

I guess the low wall won't support all those calibers but some are available in the high wall. As far as another run from browning I don't really see one anytime soon, but anything is possible I supose.

I would like a low wall in 257 roberts or 250/3000. That would be a dandy. I've even thought about having a 223 bored out to 25cal. & chambered in 257 roberts.  :) You can get almost anything made if your willing to spend the money.

For what's it worth, I bought a Browning 1885 Low Wall in 22 Hornet and had a Douglas barrel chambered in 250-3000 put on. I had to change the extractor was all. Now I have 2 guns, a 22 Hornet and a 250-3000.

Swede, are you saying it's a switch barrell rifle or that you just kept the hornet barrell in case you ever wanted to change it back?

Yeah, I know this isnt quite what you asked, but how many times does somebody say,"anyone own a low wall"?
1893 Win. mdl'85, LW, standard sporting rifle in cal.25-20 (repeater) with a 28" #1 wt oct barrel, Lyman 5B combination front sight, Marbles open rear and Marbles tang sight.

Update 9-10: One of my best friends made me a good offer, and truth is that he will put it to better use than I, so it has moved on (however, I have visiting rights, the best of both worlds).

I just kept the 22 Hornet barrell and parts to change it back or if I ever sell it I would sell as a set.

I have looked at the Brownings in HW and LW configuration for years, but never bought one. I used to only go for iron sight guns, so the scope only on many put me off. Now that my eyes are old & tired I dont mind a tidy scope if it is an older model so it doesnt look so 'modern' and out of place.
The Brownings have always been high priced in my neck 'o the woods too. If a good buy had come along Im sure I would have been more enticed. As it is, I waited it out and this Win. LW came along at a good price, well below any Browning seen to date. I guess there are still a few good deals out there, just decide what you want (whatever it is), save up some bucks, and when the right deal comes it's yours.

I have a nice LW in .38-40. Not quite what you were looking for, but lots of fun to shoot.

I have an original Low Wall Deluxe in 32 rimfire.
Shoots right nice on small game out to about 75yds or so.
I have an extra frame I want to barrel in a 32-20 someday.
I also have three of the reproduction High Wall from Winchester.
One each in 45-70, 405, and 270WSM all with 28" oct barrels.
Really nice guns.
The prices have doubled over what I got mine for several years back.
At $600.00 a piece NIB, I wish I would have bought a lot more of them.
