NEF Sprotster
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:41:17 AM »
Hello all!
Found this site from my interest in an NEF Sportster in a rimfire caliber.  Is NEF/H&R still going to offer the sportster in rimfire calibers?  The supply seems to be non-existant from all the bigger distributors and none of the local shops have them either.  The H&R web site does not appear to have been updated in a few years as it still shows the 22mag Ultra, which is really what I would like to have but I understand that has been discontinued for a while and the sportster models does not appear to show all calibers i.e. 22mag with no sites.  Any way just thought I would say hey, and ask if any one had current info on the NEF Sporsters.

Welcome! The Sportster is still available in 17hmr, 22Lr and 22Mag, no Ultra tho, the website has been updated fairly regularly up to earlier this year, it does have some errors tho, but they still list the 22mag Ultra to promote sales of those still in dealer inventories. They are no longer NEF, all of their single shots are now H&R, the only NEF products are the imported shotguns. As for finding them in stock, best of luck, when Remington closed the Gardner MA plant and moved to Ilion NY, production was stopped or real slow for quite a while, they've only produced their best selling firearms during the recent months, there are several other chamberings that can't be found for the same reason.  :-\

How's the availability of accessory barrels? I was going to just go ahead and buy a .22 mag Sportster to go with my HMR, but might have to go with just the barrel, if I can find one easier. How hard is it to switch them yourself?

Sometimes they fit, sometimes they don't and require fitting, spend some time reading in the FAQs including the barrel fitting info.
