Here she is...Harton .327 Federal Mag.
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:58:41 AM »
Okay, so there has been some buzz about this revolver as Alan and I have eluded to in different conversations.  This revolver started out as a .357 Mag Blackhawk that apparently had been chunked down a hill.  I picked it up on GunBroker cheap.  It was intended to be a project gun from the getgo.  It was about that time that I started reading about the .327...I had always wanted as .32 caliber for my collection.

Once I started talking to Alan we mulled some ideas over and came up with this.  I didn't necessarily want a small revolver for the .32 so I pitched the idea of the 8 shot revolver to Alan.  Given the size he didn't think it would be any problem at all.  He thought it was pretty cool.  Now I know you purists out there are having some difficulty with an 8 shot six-shooter.  But when I think of a custom revolver, I think of something built to your particular taste and specifications.  That is truly what I got here.  As you will see, everything about this revolver is practical and is intended to be a working gun of sorts.

The picture of the target is what Alan shot with 100 gr factory loads at 25 yards.  I believe it qualifies as a shooter.  I'll need to do some work on the grips.  The grips are from Esmeralda.  They are cocobolo and are finished in a way that when Alan drilled to install the black eagles the finish cracked.  That is why there is no picture of the left grip panel.

I hope you guys enjoy it, and I can't wait to go out and shoot it for myself.  Now, if I could only find some ammo!

Now that I've had a chance to handle the finished product...all I can say is wow.  It balances perfectly, and the sight radius is just right with a 6" barrel.  I need to find me some ammo in a quick hurry.

Cool.  Now you have me thinking.
How many will fit in a S&W N frame cylinder?
Maybe Ruger will come out with something other than the little 101 for the 327 round.
Personally, I would love a single six Bisley hunter.
And thanks for the pictures.

The conversions I've seen done on those small frame revolvers have been limited to 5 shots.

Now the N frame...a talented smith might be able to swing 10 shots!

I would think Ruger would develop a single action revolver in .327.

Bluecow I don't recall what that particular style of front sight is called, but that gold bead sure does help on dark targets.

Oldshooter that's funny!  How big is that gold tooth?   ;D

I was glad to see Ruger come out with it.  Although I don't care for the fluted cylinder.  I'll stick with my custom version.

True to Ruger style, there are very few available and way to many shooters that want them. My dealer can't get my hands on one. I also second the motion on the Bisley grip.

So how does this thing compare to the 30 carbine in the revolver that was built about 20 years ago? The last issue of the Rifleman featured a factory version of this gun which was very similar, but they never mentioned the old 30 carbine revolver and how they compare.
