20ga Tracker II Slug Gun
« on: December 02, 2009, 03:15:34 AM »
While out at lunch yesterday, I thought I would walk in the local pawn shop and see what they had on the rack. They had this 20 ga slug gun on the rack with a 24" barrel and iron sights that appeared to be in good condition. It doesn't have the youth stock, but I could replace it..

I know these things run $180-$190 new, but what's a fair price for a used one? And how's the recoil? Have any of you let your kids deer hunt with one of these?

Thanks in advance!

Jon

From that thread, it doesn't look like something I need to put on a skinny 10 year olds shoulder.....

Jon I just picked up a Tracker II 20 ga from another member here on GBO 2 3/4" lightfield slugs shot magnificently out of this gun 3 hole touching at 65 yards and recoil just felt like a little nudge I was amazed I expected much more. By the way I paid $150 for mine.

Probably not but you could try it out...If it doesn't work out, maybe you could save it for him in a few years.  You can also pick up some reduced recoil loads I believe.  That might do the trick until you want to unleash full boat slugs on him.

Check out these Buckhammer slugs...They are managed recoil and fling 7/8 oz of lead down range at 1275 fps.

I've got one I bought off the classifieds in a Trackerll slug barrel, and I installed the barrel on a frame of mine with a Boyd's thumbhole stock.

I drilled out the stock and placed several ounces of shot into the stock to make it a tad heavier and I can shoot 3" Remington Buckhammers and the gun feels like the recoil of my .357 maximum.

It's a pleasure to shoot, so just make sure you add some weight to the stock and shoot 2 3/4 slugs and he should be able to handle the recoil with no problem.

Oh yeah, I've taken two bucks with mine so far, one at 40 yards and the other at 65, and both never went more than 40 yards after a double lung shot.
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Thanks for the replies guys! If it had a youth stock, I would have already gave the $140 they're asking but I'm still undecided.. I looked at those reduced recoil sabots as well and I'm sure they would help..

I forgot to add my other solution for reducing the felt recoil.  I installed a Mercury Recoil Reducer from C&H Research.  They cut the reducer to my specs.  I measured the depth of the stock bolt hole and provided them with that info.  A couple weeks later, I had a reducer that fit the stock bolt hole perfectly.  I just had to remove the butt pad, install the reducer, add a rubber washer behind it to make it tight and voila...Reduced recoil.  It was mostly for my 10GA Turkey gun but works equally as well for my 12GA USH.  Of course, that was a little more pricey than the shot in the bolt hole...I would probably try that one first.
