Another Whatzit Model
« on: December 02, 2009, 01:37:10 PM »
I've got the feeling I've seen either drawings or photos of a real cannon like this, a really large one, but I can't seem to recall where I saw it.  While I'm scratching around in my photos and stuff I thought I'd put some pix here since someone may recognize it, give me a name, and save me some time and frustration.

I realize the "carriage" is junk and not too old.  I think the barrel may be antique however.  I know where this has been over about the past 60 years, so it  is at least that old.

Seems an odd style to be bronze.

Yes I probably shoulda written that it was made of YNFM, then no one can argue.  The ones who don't know what that means won't argue either since they are skeered of being wrong once they find out what it means.

It is all about psychology of course.  In yer head.  Right Gary?  He knows.

Cannonmn,

Don't get him started on Psychology ! this thread will go off on wild tangents that even you can not imagine!

Now back to the little cannon........could it be just what it is?  Not really modeled after any cannon as to a known model,

but something it's builder thought a cannon should look like? whoever built it went to a lot of trouble the trunnion ring

if one piece took a bit of machining.

Perhaps, 50% big Armstrong, et al. + 50% maker's imagination.

Yellow Non Ferrous Metal

We have a winner!  Maybe that GMTA phenom., huh DD?  Anyway, you will receive in the mail or by truck if required the grand prize which will be of approximately equal value to the one I received for being the self-proclaimed winner of this board's July 4th Firecracker Cannon Contest.

Did somebody write Armstrong?

I think that does fit this one.  The first one pictured is more Blakely-esque I'd say.

Gary, I came up with a name for your ride, knowing how historically-oriented you are:

"The Yellow Peril"

Just don't park it hear any Chinese restaurants with that name on it, or yer tires might be flat when you come back.

There are ONLY two small USMC stickers on it ,one at the top of the windshield and a tiny little round one on the rear window .

I do not want anyone messing with it ! So no "kill them all ,type stickers" ,if such a sticker was available .

When I come back to it after shopping . There are sometimes two and three yellowjackets hovering around , they dont bug :D me at all . I guess I'm their Mothership ?

Et al. - and others. Believe it or not, I was going to say Armstrong/Blakely/Whitworth, but I opted for brevity.
