Jeez, Three months later I finally got my 870 set up with a red dot and went to the range today. I have been busy chasing deer with a handgun for the last three months and finally started messing with the shotgun now that deer season is over.
I took three different brands of rifled slugs, all 2 3/4", Remington, federal and Winchester. I set my target at 70 yards as that is about the maximum shot I get here in Georgia and that is about it for my old eyes too.
I was pleasently surprised at the recoil, I was really dreading it but it was much milder than 3" turkey loads. I ended up shooting about 25 shots and found the Federals and Winchesters shot about the same. I was able to keep all the shots in a 4" circle and that is within the kill zone of a deer. It was a blast to shoot and I had a good time. I will be looking forward to field testing it next October.
Thanks for the help and advise.
