Got this guy yesterday with my taurus 357 at about 5 feet from my ground blind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never killed a deer with a 357, but have always read "it will work if you keep your shots close". Guess you did that eh?

Really nice buck, and good job!!! I would like to read some more details on how this big boy got in so close, load used, etc. Were you just using a handgun, or was it a back up gun?

I was in my ground blind in a bean field looked out the window and there he was. He had crossed the ditch next to the field. Walked right to the blind he. did see something he didnt like started to turn when i pullef
up and shot. I hit him high as you can see he went down. I was using my taurus 669 with a 6 inch barrel iron sights my load was a 180 gr cast bullet using winchester296 powder have to look to see what the amount was.

Got this one with my GP100. Factory 158 grain SJSP. He was close, less than 20 yards!

I killed a big doe year before last at 107 yards with my T/C Contender 10" barrel with a 180 XTP pushed my 13.5 grs H-110. She was angling toward me with her right shoulder. I placed the bullet in the center of her right shoulder and it went through her chest and destroyed her lungs and was found just under the hide at the edge of her left ham when I skinned her out. The bullet was a text book mushroom. She ran about 50 yards before she was down for the count.

That 180 grain cast load is a good one. What kind of penetration did you get?

I know that some deer have to pop out of a trap door in the ground or something. One second you look the other way and then back and there they are looking right at you and you can't move or they will bolt.

Nice job and congratulations,shooting deer with a handgun is really rewarding.I have shot a couple over the years with 357 and always used the 158 jsp by winchester or 158 xtp by hornady.Mine were 50 yds or less both times and it worked like a champ.

Great accounts of the hunts. Thanks for sharing. I have a 6 inch GP 100 and love it. I think the 357 mag is the most versatile round out there, a must have handgun. I'm not sold on cast core yet I think the high velocity HP has an edge, but a good wide metplate punching all the way through seems to do the job!

Sverre A. I tried the 13.5 gr H-110 with the 180XTP loaded in both of the cannelures and found that I got best accuracy by crimping in the top one closest to the nose of the bullet. This load is really accurate in my 10" Contender.
