Found in a gun shop today
« on: December 03, 2009, 02:49:23 PM »
I found a 243 handi with a 20 gauge barrel. The intresting thing about it is the receiver is nickel and both barrels are blued. The 243 must be a superlight as it is drilled and tapped for rail but has open sights.
I checked the numbers and both of the barrels have the last three serial numbers to match the receiver.
The 20 says 20 gauge partner and it all sits in a youth synthetic stock.

Did they make such a rifle or is this a special build rifle?
Any info would be great.
Thanks

It could be a special order combo, or it could also just be accessory barrels ordered by an individual.

Is there a way to tell if its a sb2 receiver by serial number.
I will contact H@R tomorrow to make sure this is the right receiver.

Thanks

No way to tell by the serial number or us, H&R can tho. The differences are shown in the FAQs and Help sticky, most obvious difference is the tang around the stock bolt thread mounting hole is skeletonized on an SB2, solid on an SB1.

All ya need is a phillips screwdriver, a 9/16 socket, ratchet and long extention.  Then you could give them a lesson on Handi Anatomy 101 ;D :D ;) ::) :o

Can't you tell by the front of the reciever? I hope so as this is what I've been going on. Never took a stock off yet. What year does the prefix say it is? New?
Gander Mtn. has 44 mag with scope with new prefix sb1 with a nickel looking frame.

Well another handi comes home with me. Not the 45/70 but a 243 for my daughters first deer rifle.
I called H@R while I was at the gun shop, They told me that the receiver was safe to handle any barrel they have. ;D

It has a 20 partner 3" mod ejector shotgun and a 243 superlight with open sights and weaver rail and a redfield 1x-4x scope on it.
Don't know much about the scope?
I paid $250 out the door for it. ;D
Thanks

I Think You Done REAL GOOD! I'd have it if I saw it ;D That should be a good scope. What reticle? You may have to do a little work with that SL barrel but that's OK!
That is probably the Handiest combo for your intended use. ;)
Please keep us posted on how it/she does. Good Luck!

I'd say you did really well.  That combination could keep a young lady smiling for the rest of her life.  Wish her good hunting and shooting from me.

You've probably created a new Handiholic.

I was on vacation and all my tools were in the truck, just not a long enough extension. So call H@R for the info and all was good ;D

Anyone have any idea what the value of the scope is?
It's a Redfield 5 star 1x-4x and looks like a shotgun or pistol scope. Very clear but is mounted back to far on the rail.

Thanks Kevin
