Ice saw works well. Some guys also use chain saws.
My favorite way--other than having someone else do it--wait till the sun of spring takes care of it  lol.

Once you get your holes opened up and traps set  I use an axe head that is welded to an old broken d-handle shovel to reopen them....

I've used a chain saw on really thick ice but most times just use a spud bar. I know some guys use an axe but when I tried an axe I got a lot wetter than any time with a spud bar.
A spud bar is also good to use for sounding for runs and thumping for bad ice. If the ice is questionable spud bar is my first tool of choice.
