same thing that drives the geese to fly south, deer to change "red" summer coats for browns & greys, and leaves to start to drop. temperatures have some play, but not nearly as much as angle of sun, duration of sunlight vs. darkness, and natural cycles.
A hot, dry spell can run clear until mid-November in this area, as it has in past several seasons. Spent quite a few days checking traps in a t-shirt, but coons were prime and the canines were getting slaty colored. Cold weather always feels better to trap in, but time of year is time of year. Go more by average dates when majority of animals are prime vs. actual or average temperatures and you will find that the date is more consistent than temperatures or average daily weather patterns.
