Yes, a strap wrench. Alternately you can use a set of ten inch water pump pliers. Have you called Leupold?

I know of lots of fish who eat lead and survive to be caught again. Lead based paint chips are all we had as snacks when I was a young'un. The larger the chunk of lead you eat the less relative damage you should expect. A couple BB shot would cause much less concern than equivalent weight powdered into your oatmeal in the morning.

uh........in the spirit of the others:
1. man up
2. loosen it up, sometimes newer scopes are stiff.  Maybe you need to sit in front of the tv and work the adjustment collar 100 times to loosen it up a bit.

In the field, just set the scope on the lowest power and/or the AO at 100 yards and leave it alone.

A classic Leupold problem. Sometimes a trip to the factory will remedy the problem. Sometimes not. Mine don't seem to be any worse in the cold weather though. After enough turning back and forth all mine loosened up somewhat.

Also you can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead.

Thanks for all your input. The one that is the worst was made in the mid 40's the other two are newer. the only time its a problem is when you need to dial up in a hurry to see horns in a cut down. cuz in a cut down they all have horns. ar ar ar.
