It's the rifle I would keep if I could keep only one. It shoots every .38SPL or .357 load I feed it. Very handy weight, length & balance, plus it's a fine-looking rifle. Don't know what else I can say!

This same question has been run on several threads and all of them had long strings of replies saying how everybody loves it, I love mine too. Funny, when I was cowboy shooting you seldom saw the 357. Everybody was using 45Colts. On this forum the 45 is seldom mentioned, but it seems there is a love affair with the 357. There are supposed to be cowboy shooters on the forum, I wonder has the trend turned around since I shot the game?

Its a great little carbine!!  We have a VK/hunting property about 4hours away and its the rifle I generally always bring. (Just to have something.) The kids LOVE shooting 38spls and the hi-power rounds have plenty of power for lite big game at close ranges. It keeps the raccoons out of the garbage rite nicely!! Its a great shooter and a very nice looking rifle!

Here is mine:

Its factory. Marlin does have nice wood, it just doesn't get on many rifles. They simply try to "level" the playing field by only using the mediocre wood and setting aside the nicer stocks. Employees get there pic from these nicer pieces. Its my assumption that that's what happened here. Being my close proximity to the factory, I know many employees. I figure this was an employee rifle and he /she put on the nicer wood. I'm lucky enough to have three or four sets of such wood on my Marlins.

Here is my 32-20

Here is my 375

I dont have any pics of my 39 mountie...

I am not arguing about the claim that Marlin has nice wood, but I have never seen wood like that on an off-the-shelf Marlin.  You are very fortunate to have those come your way.  Nice!

I also have one. You get a lot more steel in the barrel with the .357 compared to the .45. - maybe a bit more rigid barrel. Lots of fun and mine shoots great.

The 357 really gains a lot of steam in a rifle, about 400-500 fps. This makes it quite a bit more powerful than you would expect.

I have one Marlin, one Browning 92, and two Rossi 92's, in .357 Mag.  Can you tell that I like them  ;D

Yup I have one and I did not use it much last year but this winter the reloading will begin. It will kill deer, fox, coon and I have blasted a squirrel or two, missed a coyote  ( darn). Get plenty of casings and reloading stuff. Happy shooting to you, good choice of weapon.

I have a set for a Marlin 22 rimfire I have been coveting for many years... I haven't gotten a rifle it "fits". I came close to selling a time or two...

How does the Marlin compare to the Rossi?  I plan on buying a .357 lever gun in the future & I'm torn btween the two.

Buy the Marlin first you will save yourself the cost of two rifles because you will not be satisfied with the Rossi

I have a Marlin 1894 in .357 and a Rossi Puma in .357. For fun shooting and walking around with I will say that the Puma has a slight edge. Fit and finish the Marlin wins. I have a peep on the Marlin and am very happy with the accurcy. I have just gotten a peep for the Puma and have't shot it yet with my hand loads. The way it shoots .38s with open sights I think it will do as well as the Marlin with the hotter loads and peep sights. I will know some time next week as I am taking it with me to AZ.

They are both great guns and I would not want to part with eather.
