blackhorn 209 & encore

Ok, this might be a dumb question, but looking at the picture on the Blackhorn 209 bottle, is the breech plug on a T/C Encore considered compatible with this powder?  The guy at Cabelas that sold me the powder told me it was fine, but looking at it again, I'm not so sure.
I haven't tried using it yet.

Mike,

You are good to go with ALL of the factory T/C breech plugs, and that would include the Encore. The most important thing is to get a good hot primer, Federal 209A or CCI 209M (Magnum). Seat your bullet firmly on the powder and you should not have a problem at all.

The first picture on the bottle is the Encore plug. It is in the compatible breech plug type.

Hey, thanks for the replies, that is what I was hoping to hear.  I use 777 now, but am looking to get away from the crud ring problem.  We're in the middle of muzzleloader season right now, so I'll probably wait til it's over to try it out.

I am switching to Blackhorn as well in my Encore.

I was not doing this and I was using a sabot that did not fit "tight". Several misfires until I figured this out. Good advice Busta.

According to the BH209 website, a 120gr charge is maximum for all bullet weights listed except for the 440gr gr slug where 100gr is the listed max.

I would not be using a 150gr charge even for the 190gr-200gr class sabots.

RE: using 150gr of T7 - I believe that 150gr of T7 pellets is (usually) acceptable but 150gr of T7 loose would exceed maximum recommendations.

Mirage- My groups improved with 150g of t7, plus down range performance is better.  Why run light loads in a magnum rifle?

To tell you the truth, you do not gain much with the extra 50 gr. of powder in speed wise, around 200 fps but the felt recoil is where you feel the difference.

100 gr. of Triple 7 pellets will kill just as well as 3 Triple 7 pellets.

Just because your gun has Magnum written on the side, does it mean you have to shoot them that way. Myself I fine tune my accuracy by using the powder, I can tweak it and get the best accuracy. With velocity you do not necessarily get the best accuracy.

Although I'm still using loose Pyrodex I have the same results as Redhawk. I did a chrony test and got no increase in velocity with more then 105-110 grs. So I firgure I want the best accuracy and why waste the powder. Muzzle loader powder is really expensive in my books, especially because you use such a large charge when compared to a centerfire anything.
