soft gas checks?

Need a little help here.  I keep hearing about soft gas checks (wax?) and how they can help certain loadings.  However I have been unable to find a source for them.  I asked my local gun shop and they said "What?"  Midway doesn't list them either.    Any info appreciated, Thanks    44 Man
