I'll get blasted for this, but camo tape is a scam, just like camo clothing and scent proof clothing. I've bowhunted with a recurve for 40+ years, and I know camo is useless, unless one goes to the point of using a ghillie suit. Blue jeans and a plaid shirt are fine.  Clothing will give you away if it's noisy or white or black.  Of course turkys spook at bright colors, but they are the exception. Even turkys won't see your gun.

There's enough info in the FAQs gun painting links that anyone should be able to achieve an acceptable finish.  ;)

what cw said about the truck bed paint sounds good.... don't ever underestimate a clumsy person's ability to mess something up though!  I might be able to get a buddy to do it though (the one that makes guns)

as you can see in that pic, it's painfully plain to hold and see (it's a tool, I know I know)

It is a great way to knock 25% off the value of your gun. If you want to dress it up, buy a pretty walnut or lami stock. Tacticool, buy a cheapo High Point or Keltec with plastic Picatinny rails for the full airsoft effect. Else, I'd throw the money into a Lee Loader and a pound of powder.

Squib...bring it up here and we'll get it painted in my garage if you want to Krylon it...We can do some 3 or 4 color camo with leaf design on it if you want.. or even the multi color splatter effect ;) It really isn't hard to do at all..

if you send me a pic of your paint jobs and it looks good (i assume that being a senior gun nut your work is good) then I'll probably make the trip...

anyone got an opinion on the millett zoom dot (100yds shots is all I intend to get the rifle set for- my eyes are jacked up and that's about how far I can see in the woods)

I'm a big fan of DuraCoat. It cost $50 to professionally coat my .45LC Handi with one solid color.  Just this last week, I dropped off my semi-custom Win 70 for coating.  I have plans for at least 2 more Handis for coating this year. There are no worries of exterior rust, even if you cover it with tape afterwards.  DuraCoat can also be painted over, with good preparation. It makes a good bottom layer and provides much more protection than paint.

I can recommend a good man to do the job.  ;)

I respect you for being a medic but don't know if I want you to "doctor up" my rifle.... buddies "lose" stuff sometimes and all  :o


you suggesting you or mac?  I straight up accept that I either don't do enough or go way overboard on most any fine arts projects (like painting gun metal)  I am obsessive compulsive about firearms cleaning and maybe if everything is protected externally I can just spray the inside with brandX product and wipe the shelf-call it a day.  Man I might even dis n' ass to wipe off np3 parts if I got that done too, for all I know... but I need to do something, I got the bug man.

  Thanks, but much like you, I have no business painting anything either.  I would suggest a man that runs a DuraCoat business that does all my work.

http://kempscustomcoatings.com/  He's a 4 1/2 hour drive East on 64 from StL. But you can always ship it to him. He's 68 y/o and has just a few years of smithing experience. ;)

BTW, I know my job very well, there's 16 men alive today that wouldn't be otherwise. ;)

he made an aftermarket sks look good, he actually made desert camo look good?!  I don't think I've ever even seen a picture of that pulled off...

I might make the trip after all, mac are you that good?

Uhhh..I offered to help you spray yours in my garage with Krylon..I never said I was a professional that did this for a living with multiple sprayers,spray booths and all kinds of stencils did I ? I've sprayed a bunch of rifles and bows before..No..they weren't professionally painted or dura-coated. They didn't look bad IMHO..and they certainly did the job..but professional....no.If you want a professional job..then find someone down there that will or take Dinny's suggestion and pay him to dura-coat it for you..

well... his work did look good.  I'm still working on the stock/balance/weight/recoil pad issue now... I'll get some kind of painting done later.  I need to figure out a pattern first though (I'm obsessive compulsive though... not in ALL things, I'll eat almost raw venison and I pick my nose too often but I can't stand scratches on a gun, or hands-oil (sebum) on my playstation controllers)
