Absence of deer
« on: December 06, 2009, 01:24:22 AM »
I don't think that I have ever sat so long in one spot without seeing deer. Its hard to believe that so many deer are in the cornfields. The farmers have been harvesting their crops as fast as the elevator dryers will permit, yet the sightings of deer remain low, or non existant. The accident rate involving deer is also running low.I am sure that there are many areas that have low hunting preasure that hold many deer, but my property is surrounded by several thousand acres that are probaly hunted by less than twenty people. This sure reminds me of the days when quail and rabbits were everywhere and then vanished.Hope that the rest of you are experiencing better hunting.

During the first shotgun season, all of the deer around here (west central Illinois) were harvested during the morning hours.

During the second, they were mostly taken in the evening.

With the weather the way that it is now, I am hoping that they are moving all weekend long.

I tagged a buck the first season and two does during the second.

I saw 35 turkeys (within 35 yards) and 20 or so deer last weekend...on Sunday to be exact.
