410/45 LC barrel sights
« on: December 06, 2009, 04:02:21 AM »
Guys, I am looking for options for a 410/45 LC barrel. I HATE the bead sight that they supplied on the barrel. I know that I can drill and tap but on a survivor gun, only having a scope is not the best option should one drop the gun. So I am looking for iron sight options. So what type of iron sights should I put on it. Even a peep would be great! Is there a drill and tap option for the front sight as well?

thanks for any imput

Are you saying that no rear sight comes with the gun at all ?

If you put a peep the best location is close to the eye and that
means screwing a tang sight into the steel at the rear of the trigger
or mounting it in the 5.8 space ahead of the hammer and behind
the barrel.  Is there enough thickness in the rear part of the
barrel to let you drill and tap a rear sight?   I am very nervous
about putting holes in the most highly stress part of a barrel.

The 45/410 Survivor barrel comes with a bead front sight only, H&R will drill and tap the barrel for a scope rail, many here have had that done by H&R or by their local smith, the rear two mounting holes work great for the Williams WGRS peep sight. I don't recollect anyone putting a front sight on it, most use a red dot or scope on the scope rail,  but I'd look at some of the shotgun sights that mount over the bead or a barrel band type sight.

I have a 410 snake charmer and would like to shoot 45colt from it. Is there a rifled barrel that I could get for it?

There is a rifled 410/45lc barrel but only blued. the barrel your a looking for is the survivor model 410 barrel, you would be able to use that on the tamer frame, or if you wanted to build up a complete seperate survivor/tamer  gun....

357mag or 44mag are a couple rifle barrels than can be fitted to the SB1 Tamer frame, H&R will do it if it was made since 1987 or you can buy a second hand barrel in the H&R classifieds here and fit it yourself with the FAQs help.

I bought the tamer as I thought it was cute. I found that I quickly tired of shooting the 410. I have a 17 HMR that really stings but alas the firing pin is not in the same place as my center fire shot gun receiver.

I am going to start looking for a rifled barrel that would not harm my receiver, I reload for all of the cartridges mentioned. Thanks for replying to my subject drift. I read somewhere on here that the full on rifle receivers are made of stiffer steel than the shot gun.

SB2 rifle frames are heat treated investment cast alloy steel, SB1 shotgun frames are cast iron, same as the SS1 rimfire frame.
