NEW Daisy model 25 being made
« on: December 06, 2009, 09:21:26 AM »
I seen it in the flyer from Bass Pro this morning and thought I better get one.  I looked around on the internet and could not find a single dealer that had one for sale, not even on E bay.
I called Bass Pro and was told they had 20 of them so I took off right away and went and got one.
I am pretty impressed with the new model, it has a wood stock & forend , flip rear sight from V notch to peep, takedown screw, and overall a nice finish.
The only thing that is much different from the one I had as a kid in the 1950's is it has a plastic trigger with a safety.
So I shot it for about 50 shots and like it alot, it seems smoother cocking than the original , has a decent trigger pull and at about 30-35 feet I was able to shoot it at a quick fire rate, cock, aim fire in about 11/2 seconds per shot and hit a soda can everytime.
Bass Pro has these for $ 40.00 and I think they will sell out quick.
Just a heads up to those like me that when I heard Daisy mod. 25's for sale, I got to get one !!   8)

I can't remember the model. Is that the pump with the spring fed magazine? That was my first and it seemed to be a big step above almost every other Daisy

bilmac,  You are correct, pump action, spring fed magazine, so it fires everytime !!  I had one when I was a kid, and with that peep sight I could and did shoot the eyeball out of many house sparrows, starlings ect, NO BRAG JUST FACT !!  I loved that gun and somehow lost it in my later teens and always wanted another one, now retired and still a sparrow shooter, I got one !     Jedman

I find them all over the place on a couple different forums I frequent. I just grab a copy, (right click and copy) to the hard drive then upload them to my photo-bucket account for use when and where ever!!

Not to be a party pooper, but a look at the airgun forums will show that some are not real happy with the new Chinese ones. For one thing, many have reported that the front sight is canted to one side.

About two months ago, I bought this 1930's era model for $30 in working condition. They're out there if you look around and are willing to wait for a nice one to come along. People are digging out all kinds of old things to sell these days with the economy and all...

I also have one of the Centennial Edition model 25's produced in 1986. They're made very close to the originals. Generally go for a lot of money now though...

Victor3   The model I just bought ( chinese made ) has a straight front sight blade, but the way they are made , folded and spot welded leaves a small teardrop shaped void at the tip of the blade.
It gave me the idea to look for a white insert bead that would require a small hole drilled thru the tip and also with my old eyes I am going to enlarge the rear peep hole a little also.
One part of the new rifle that I actually like better than the original is the magazine tube.
The Muzzle end piece is die cast and better fitted and the breech end of the tube is also a casting held together with 2 dowel pins and 2 screws and looks and feels more solid than the way I remember the original being.
Being retired I go to alot of garage sales , auctions , estate sales ect. and I see a lot of used air rifles being sold but have not yet run across a good older mod. 25, wood stock model at a reasonable price.
This rifle is going to be nice for my wife to shoot as it requires much less effort to cock than my break barrel pellet rifles and during the spring and summer when the bluebirds are nesting, we have 4 nest boxes.
We, my wife and I shoot every house sparrow we can because they are nest robbers, and will go in the nest boxes and kill the baby bluebirds and are not welcome at any of our seed feeders, suet cakes, bird baths ect.  So I think this rifle will get plenty of use.     Jedman

I've dug out my old model 25, most likely '50's vintage, pretty good shape, made in MI.  I've posted it in the clasifieds for sale.

In the 1960s I probabaly fired 200,000 rounds thru my Model 25.  It had a brown plastic stock and was very accurate.  I use to shoot those white tipped matches out of it to.  They made a loud pop (and usually lit) when they struck asbestos shingles or roofing material siding. ;D
