Has your herd rebounded yet?

  Two years ago Pa. got hit with EHD Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease. In the area I hunt, Just east of Indiana Pa, We found 30 dead deer on our farm alone. That left a lot of deer undiscovered.
   In the two seasons that have followed, despite having doe tags, we have tried to ovoid shooting doe. We were trying to get the herd back up.
   This season, we are still taking it easy on the doe but have harvested a few. The herd is still not back where it was 3 years ago but it's better.
    How is the deer population doing in your neck of the woods?

I've never heard of it, I was born and raised in Indiana co., I live in Elk co. now. My dad is in the woods alot, I'll have to ask him to keep an eye out. He scored a 7 point in the exact same place I scored a 7 point 3 years ago. ;D Good luck to you all!

I live in northern Westmoreland county, and didn't see any deer killed from EHD in this area. I do know that parts of Greene and Washington county's had numerous deer killed from EHD. Talking to some guys that hunt in those counties, they said that the deer numbers were good this year. From what I understood about EHD in Pa. is that it affected the southern counties more than the northern.

EHD is caused by a biting fly or midge. Some states have a small number of deer die every year from EHD. Usually in late summer or early fall. The first frost usually ends any more transmission of the disease.

   I live in western Westmoreland county and found quite a few dead deer two years ago and a couple last year. This year, I have found none that appeared to have died from EHD.
   Two years ago in Armstrong county we found 30 dead deer on a 200 acre farm. The deer herd has been low since then. This is year we have taken a few doe but are careful about our harvests. The herd is on the rebound but it still isn't up to the numbers we had three years ago and in the years past.

Why do you think you need over 100 deer per square mile?No habitat in pa can handle anywhere near that kind of overpopulation.
