25-35 Winchester
« on: December 06, 2009, 12:53:06 PM »
I thought there may be some intrest here on 25-35's.  Nice little rimmed cartridge which looks perfect for the H&R's.  This is the first one I have turned out for one, the barrel is straight .900 and nearly 20 1/2 inches long.  I still have to cut the extractor slot then sand blast and parkerize it, but it is near done, if it will warm up just a little I will finish it off.  My guess is this thing will be a real shooter!  Below it is a picture of a 20 gauge barrel just to compare it to.  Also, speaking of cold, I went Coyote hunting in eastern Washington on Friday.  Got there and it was clear and cold, went out and got setup and called for about an hour in a couple of places, then the ice fog came in, by the time I got back to the truck this is what it looked like, and I will tell you it was no fun at all.  Larry

More nice work Larry, Marv will be proud of ya!!  ;D I hope it's warmer up there than it is here, today's high was 38º, 24º overnight tonight and tomorrow's guess is expected to be just 30º and 19º at night, then gradual warming thru the week, brrrr, seems real familiar, I sure hope it doesn't last as long as it did last year! :-\

Yeah, I hear ya Doug, but this ain't Montana, the weather here is usually mild in comparison, one of the reasons I like it here on the west side, not too hot in the summer, or too cold in the winter, unlike eastern Washington which you're very familiar with.....just wish we had as many nice hunting opportunities as you guys do!!  :D

Richard it is cheaper to get those two in a contender carbine... I have both.

and a 25-35 in an encore that is quickly becoming my favorite gun.

Pretty neat, I have a Stevens 200 take off that may become a 25-35 if I can get on a lathe and get ahold of a reamer.

You guys are going to have to get a range report from Doug, I don't even have an empty 25-35 cartridge, I had to used a cut off 30-30 to head space it with.  Larry

And, because it was so cold out I had to stay inside, I polished off this one, 22 Hornet, it weighs exactly 4 pounds 8 oz. as pictured.  This is my combo Coyote rifle for Arizona, 22 LR for the rimfire areas and 22 Hornet for the others.  Larry

Yes, it is built on the narrowed Rossi frame using the 410 barrel stub.  I also have the offset 22 RF barrel to go on it.  Larry

If ya need any new 25-35 Winchester brass, I could share a few with ya. Sometimes it's hard to find.
I use 25-35 to make the Cowboy Screw Drivers we sell to Cowboy Shooters.
I buy the brass in the 1000 bulk box from Grafs.

If my brain is working correctly 25-35 brass can be made very easily from 7-30  or 30-30 Brass , personally I would use the 7-30 cause it would be a simple 1 pass thru a 25-35 die with the expander removed, then inside ream  the neck  and resize  with the expander back in.

Track of the Wolf carries some of the vintage case's, as well as Buffalo Arms.
Winchester only makes a run of vintage once a year, usually in the Summer Months if they have the production slot available. I do not think they made a run for 2009. I have had 1000 Winchester 30-40 cases on order from Graf's for 9 Months. They had 25-35's in stock three Months ago.

Roseburg Gun Shop in Roseburg, Or. may have some also.
Midway shows vintage case's in the catalog. I doubt they stock many at all.

Warmed up enough to sand blast and parkerize it today.  Now just cut the ejector slot and put it together.  Larry
