Smith and Wesson old model 10

hi i just traded for an old s&w pre mod 10 serial# s 9621**. When you open the cylinder these are the numbers v 4 then 42700 under that.would like to know when it was made and any other info you can provide would be great. There are 3 patend dates on it as well Feb 6, 06 Sept. 14 09 and Dec 14, 14. Thanks

 :) well i called S&W and talked to a gentleman by the name of roy jenks and he told me it was made in 1947.

The model 10 is one of my all time favorite handguns.  Simple and rugged.

Then I carried the heavy barrel version for what, 17-18 years on the Atlanta Police Department before we went to 9mm autos.  Never could shoot the auto as well...  :-[

I have a model 10 Heavy Barrel that was modified by a former (retired) Abilene Police armory; he added a ½ inch Bomar rib and adjustable sights, slicked the trigger out and added a set of grips..  It is a tack driver, not one I would want to carry on a regular basis, but an outstanding gun for the range.

All total I have five model 10s, love em all! ::)

Model 10's are THE classic revolver. Simple, accurate and easy to carry. I have two - both in almost AN condition.

I had one that I bought from an old security guard for $100.00.  somewhere along the line somebody had fitted a target hammer and trigger. Talk about sweet!  I had to sell it in a period of finacial drought.

I had to get rid of that dinky little grip, but man what a gun! Liked it when I first saw it, but wondered why would I ever buy a .38 when I had six .357s? What the heck it was used (though it didn't look like it) and cheap, and it was calling to me so loud that I just had to get it. It's probably the most accurate handgun I own. When teaching new folks how to shoot, I start off with .22s. Once they are comfortable with that I then bring out the 10. They always love it. When I'm too old and feeble to shoot anything else, the 10 will always be there.

I like model 10s for house guns with fast 125s.   Causes me less worry about shooting the neighbors if I ever had to shoot.   Less worry than the magnum calibers.
