way too easy...
« on: December 06, 2009, 05:33:56 PM »
I went out to check out a farm I haven't hunted this year and this guy shows up chasing a doe less than 5 minutes after I got there...the 168 gr AMAX was picture perfect under the offside shoulder after a 175 yd shot. I had to take the pic in the backyard at home, as "I was just scouting" and left my camera at home.

Nice job! Almost feel bad for you, having to work that hard. ;)

Terrific shot placement at 175 yards and no exit wound (recovered bullet).  What caliber?  Would have made tracking a less lethal shot much more difficult.  Something to consider when the next "Bull Elephant" wanders into your hunting field.  I think you should consider this one a "Gift" as I am sure you know that THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME is just isn't like this...but when it is, it is SO SWEET!

.308 Win.

If I shoot thru the ribs, I have yet to see one fail to penetrate. When I shoot thru both shoulders, I have recovered two bullets, but neither of those needed tracking, as they were DRT... I'd rather not have to track.

Like you, I do not want to track.  My land is surrounded by some of the thickest palmetto and palm.  Finding anything in there without a good blood trail is lost.

The buck is beautiful.  But, what happened to the guy that was chasing the doe? LOL
