TC VENTURE
« on: December 07, 2009, 08:41:20 AM »
I hope I have this in the right place since I couldn't find a forum other than this with TC in the heading. Has anyone tried the new Venture yet. I want one in the .308. I know it hasn't hit the shelf yet, but was wondering if anyone had it in the long action yet as they are out.

I used one that a friend won at a gun bash last week.  The gun was chambered in 300WM.  I must say that for a resonably priced rifle I was very impressed.  Three shots at 100 yrds with Winchester 150gr power points could be covered with a nickle (and I'm not that good of a shot with a rifle).  I harvested a nice 8 point with it the first morning in PA at 60 yards.  The plan wasn't to shoot that close.  I had a possible shot across a field of over 300 yards, never thought I would have one so close.  If you happen to get one, you won't be disappointed.  Just my opinion

My buddy won one too. A 270 winchester, while I wasn't able to fire any rounds through it, I will say it is a very well built and nice looking rifle. Very well balanced, for me, comes up to the shoulder very nice. The trigger, which is adjustable by the way, came out of the box just about as good (perfect) as I have ever tried.  That's all I got, but like handgunhuntr said, "you won't be disappointed" ,I 2nd that.  I bought a T/C Venture last week (economy ICON).  Loaded some 30-06 rounds up and went to the range.  First 100 yard, 5 shot group was 3/4".  Second group of 5 was 7/8".  Not bad at all for the first go round.  I really like the rifle and the trigger adjustment is easy, but I didn't want to change it's 3.25# pull.  I own three Savages and love them, but I wanted to try something different this year.  I don't think either brand will be better than the other (if the Savage has the Accutrigger).

I too am looking at purchasing one of these in .270 and replace my Remington SPS DM .270. My question is, "Are the barrels free floating"?

Yes, the barrels are free floated up to the chamber.
I bought one a few weeks ago for my son's graduation present. I paid $399. shipped. It is in 300 Winchester Magnum. The bolt is as smooth as I remember the 1896 Craig Jorgensen being! It is accurate as all get out. Thompson Center stands behind their products, if there were to be a problem.
Yes I recommend the venture.
