After taking a small buck with it last month and bashing the pistol around a bit, I decided to re-check the hunting load for accuracy and POI. This old Dan Wesson M45 has served me well, firing thousands of rounds banging steel and quite a few in the field. I mounted a 2X Leupold on it a few years ago to compensate for aging eyes, and it keeps satisfying me.
The load is 15.0 grains of BlueDot over a 250XTP. It chronos @ 1185 fps, burns clean and has a noticeable flash on a dark, overcast day. Accuracy is stellar, as the photo shows. That was five shots within 30 seconds at 50 yards, for 2.5 moa. Oh yeah, the deer. Complete penetration broadside through the chest from 30 yards, he ran 15 yards and dropped. While a great many different chamberings and loads would have done just as well, I'm happy.
